Moray (Elginshire) / John, Elspit & Barbara Watson Rufford Forres Moray
« on: Tuesday 18 September 18 12:40 BST (UK)  »
While searching the Watson family in Dublin, I came across the Will of John Watson of Dublin, a bookseller, dated 1769.
In this he mentioned his brother William Watson 'at present in Edinburgh' and his two sisters
'Elspit and Barbara Watson at present in Rufford Moray'.

Up to this point I have assumed that this was an Irish family. Especially as they had a connection
through marriage with another Watson Dublin bookseller family [Elizabeth daughter of this John married Samuel Watson of the other Watson family, which claim to be from Worcestershire in England] I thought they might be cousins [?]

However, finding this Scottish information in the Will of John Watson 1769, his brother in Edinburgh and sisters in Rufford, makes me wonder if this was not just two separate Watson families, only knowing of each other through the Dublin Book trade?

Does anyone know of this Watson connection in Rufford? Or if the girls were just visiting?

The Brass memorial in Pershore Holy Cross Abbey church for the wife of John Emes, Chrysogon, calls her the daughter of Anthony Hungerford esq she died in 1670.

However the only marriage I can find [31st December 1664 Strensham] for John Emes was
 to Chrysogon FRENCH

I think this was because Chrysogon had previously been married to her cousin George French.

[I found a Will (difficult to read) of George French, in which I could make out 'My loving wife Chrysogon']

It would set my mind at ease if the original Parish register entry of her marriage to John Emes in Strensham called her Chrysogon French ........WIDOW.

Many thanks

Wiltshire / Henry Cotton Bishop of Salisbury d.1615
« on: Wednesday 07 February 18 11:55 GMT (UK)  »
In his Will, Bishop Henry Cotton asks to be buried in the Cathedral church of Salisbury, in the same place as his deceased wife Patience [his first wife]

Henry Cotton, the son of Sir Richard Cotton of Warblington and Bedhampton Hant's, was, as a young man rector of Havant, Hants. I have read that he married Patience c.1571

I have searched many pedigrees but cannot find any details of Patience's nee name [?]

The Cotton memorial stone is not in Salisbury Cathedral now, having been removed during some refurbishment.

Has anyone seen details of Patience's family name/origins ?

Dear BumbleB,

I only have the Official Marriage Cert for Harriet and John Cunningham.....Where did you obtain yours? Is it Parish Register?

Regarding the other Traynor girl....

Mary Ann Trainer married 1st Gillespie Gordon -married 2nd William Dobson
at Tadcaster March quarter 1849

In my family John Cunningham being a Hawker [He was born in Paisley Scotland, but don't know if he was Irish?] it was said that the Traynor's were Gypsies??? All I can say is all the descendants have been dark with black hair.

Dear Bumble B,
Sorry for delay in replying. We have just moved house and have not
Yet signed up for internet…I’m using my library at the moment-2 hours only!

You mentioned Sarah’s marriage, where her father is listed as sailor. On Harriet’s marriage certificate, when they married at Hovingham, he is listed as Hairdresser [?]

Thanks BumbleB

Dear BumbleB,
I know this is a little later than your search period, but have you come across
Thomas Archbell of Tadcaster, the husband of Sarah Traynor b. 1822 at Biggin West Yorkshire.

I am a descendant of Harriet Traynor also born/bapt at Biggin. She married John Cunningham 1838 and they lived in Scarborough.

I would love to find a link to a connected family

Wow Dathai!
Thank you so much for these wonderful links! It is great to have such helpful people as yourself!

They are equally as good as the original ones you gave me with my search into the Watsons of the City of Dublin Steam Packet Company!

The best of your links was the sale of the house in Tipperary. I contacted the estate agents and they put me in touch with a descendant!
