South Africa / Wallis SHORT
« on: Saturday 23 June 12 15:06 BST (UK)  »
Wallis SHORT was born Qtr 1, 1857 in St Martins, Cornwall, England and emigrated to SA sometime after 1871, possibly to Natal.

I am interested to know where he settled, did he marry, and when (and where) he died?

Any help appreciated!

Again, many thanks to both Leanne & Crisane - you have been most generous with your time!

Crisane: Bruce William Terrill is a son of Pamela & Colin.  Others that have been mentioned are John and Paul together with a sister Jean.  As these may still be living I suppose we can't take it any further  :(

Thanks Crisane for your latest posts - is there any sign of Pamela & Colin Terrill in the NZ voters lists?

Evidently, Dr C E Terrill became the Chief of the Sheep, Goat, and Fur Animal Research Centre of the US Department of Agriculture.  He was a recognised authority in the 1970s on the subject of the cross-breeding of sheep in North America.  He was based in Ohio (all from Googling his name).

What a wonderful surprise this am - many, many thanks to the various posters for the wealth of information.

To Leanne:  What are sheep visits?

To Crisane: Did the marriages you quoted for Pamela and Alberta Nancy take place in NZ?
William John is supposed to have married a Myrtle (surname unknown)
Similarly, Edwin (believed to have been born 31 Aug 1919) married Peggy ?? in 1945.
I have no indication as to where these marriages took place, but now can I assume they  were in NZ?

Samuel John is reputed to have married a 2nd time to an Ethel, again presumably in NZ?

Again, very big 'Thankyou'

Australia Lookups completed / TERRELL/ROSEVEARE Family *COMPLETE*

Samuel John ROSEVEARE(b: Dec Qtr 1877in Par, Cornwall), believed to have married Mary Yardley ALCOCK and had a daughter Pamela after 1911.  She married a Colin Terrell, probably in Australia.

Am unable to find this marriage or any ensuing family.

Any help much appreciated!

Canada Lookup Request / Re: Philip MARK b: March 1843 Lanivet, Cornwall
« on: Sunday 17 October 10 17:24 BST (UK)  »
I have found in the 1901 Census, living in Ailsa Craig Village (Near McGillivery) Richard Mark, born 1837, describing himself as a Widower living with two sons (Neail R b: 1876 & Eli S b: 1884) and a daughter Adline b: 1879).  The children born bef 1881 do not seem to align with those mentioned in the IGI 1881 Canadian census.

Also, the whole entry (and I am failry sure it is the correct Richard Mark) is at odds with Polarbear's 1911 entry for Mary Anne Mark.

Thanks to Polarbear, anyway, but any suggestions on further progress would be very welcome!

Polarbear,

Many thanks for finding Priscilla's marriage and the border crossing info giving an approx date of the Henry Mark family's arrival in Canada.

Rachel names her daughter as Priscilla SANFORD, but should that be HILL (according to the marriage you found)?

I have found a Richard MARK, in the 1881 Canadian census, farming in Thorah, Ontario.  He is married to Mary Ann and there are eight children.  Where is Thoragh and can you spot this marriage, please?

Jacquie,

Thanks - that seems to have sorted Rachel's second marriage and the parenthood of the children in the children you found in the 1871 census.

Turning to Nicholas Marks (56 in 1861).  He could be a brother of Henry Marks as a Nicholas was baptised in Luxulyan, Cornwall on June 25, 0804.  That would make John & Rachel 1st cousins?  I can't find Nicholas in the 1841 nor the 1851 Englnd census, so I wonder if he came to Canada ahead of Henry & Loveday?

Have also found the following marriage:

(Dufferin Co.) Daniel Alexander MARK, 23 , farmer, McGillivray Twp, East Luther, s/o Joseph MARK & Annie MARK, married Sarah Matilda HAMMOND, 18, East Luther, same, d/o William HAMMOND & Jane HAMMOND, wtn: George HAMMOND & Christina MARK both of East Luther, on Jan 30 , 1895, at Grand Valley

Alexander and Christiana are shown as children of Joseph Mark & Ann (Annie) in the 1881 Canadian census living in McGillivray.
