Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Jane Snow
« on: Wednesday 15 January 20 11:38 GMT (UK)  »
Hi All,
I'm trying to find the birth certificate of Jane Lewis nee Snow. Jane was born around 1848 in the Bridgend area to parents Mary Ann Hosgood and William Snow. She married Henry Lewis in 1869 in Pontypridd. I have found all census records from 1851 through to 1911. Any help on this subject would be gratefully received.
                                         Regards

Glamorganshire Lookup Requests / Settie Matilda Parker
« on: Friday 27 December 19 16:36 GMT (UK)  »
Hello Everyone,
I've hit a brick wall on my second great aunt, Settie Matilda Parker. Settie was born in June 1885 in the Registration District of Merthyr Tydfill (birth index 1837 - 1915; volume 11a; page 572) to John Parker and Mary James. She had two brothers, James John Parker and Joseph Parker (my great grandfather) and a sister Annie Mary Parker.

I can find her on two census records, the 1891 census (RG12/4410/105 p 31 reg. dist. Pontypridd; sub. reg. dist. Eglwysilan)
and the 1901 census (RG13/4997/170 p26). But that's it. What I would like to find out is what happened to her. She had reached the age of 16 by 1901, did she marry or did she die? If I could find a marriage record I could search for her married name.

On a side note, her name Settie, is this a common name or is it a version of another name? Any help on this would be gratefully received.

                                                       Regards, David

Hi all, I'm trying to find some information about this photograph, but a bit of background to the pic first. In the picture (circled from left to right) is my grand uncle Italo Zanchi, my grandfather Guilo Alfredo Camillo Zanchi and my other grand uncle William Zanchi. On the 25th April 1921 their mother Daisy Rosina Zanchi (nee Lee) died of TB, they were living in 20, Cotlands Road, Bournemouth at the time along with their father Antonio Zanchi. After her death the boys were put into, we think an orphanage, and we can only assume that this is a photo of that orphanage. We think that the institution was probably catholic (statue of the Virgin Mary at back of photo and due to the Italian background of the boys father Antonio) and is dated early 1920's.Now I can't find any catholic institutions in the Bournemouth area, where the boys wore sailors uniforms, but I did come across some photographs of boys in an orphanage with similar uniforms and also that the orphanage was run by nuns and called the St Vincent's Orphanage for boys in Torquay, Devon. I know my grandfather worked in Plymouth as a chef in later years and wondered whether this photo could well be of the orphanage in Torquay. Any help on this matter would be very much appreciated.
Regards, David

Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Orphanage Photo abt 1921
« on: Monday 24 June 19 17:35 BST (UK)  »
Hi all, trying to find out a bit more about this photo. A bit of background first. My grand father's mother (Daisy Rosina Zanchi) died of TB in 1921, she was living in Cotlands Rd, Bournemouth at the time, she was only 29. For what ever reason, her husband put their three sons into an orphanage; Italo Zanchi, Guilo Zanchi (my grandfather) and William Zanchi. So the photo is of the three boys ( circled) from left to right; Italo, Guilo and William. The family are catholic and if you look closely there's a statue of the Virgin Mary at the back so presumably the orphanage is a catholic one. So my question is; going on the fact they were living in Cotlands Road, Bournemouth at the time, their mother died in 1921 and they are catholic ( their father is from Northern Italy), does anyone possibly know the name of the orphanage or even recognise anyone in the picture or the photo itself? I know It's a long shot but It's worth asking. Thanks for your time, Regards, David.
