Derbyshire Lookup Requests / 1861 Census - look up request
« on: Saturday 07 March 09 02:33 GMT (UK)  »
Can anyone locate this family for me on the 1861 Census?

A George Bramwell married a Nancy Walker in 1851 in Clitheroe, Lancs.

Nancy b. 1833 Clitheroe, Lancs and George b. 1829 Tideswell, Derbyshire. This George was a 22 yr old Police Constable on the 1851 Census living on Ashton Terrace, Clitheroe with Nancy's family.  Nancy was 18.

I cannot find Nancy Bramwell (nee Walker) or George Bramwell the Police Constable on the 1861 Census.  Whether this means they both died between 1851 and 1861 or that Nancy died and George Bramwell remarried and changed professions as I have this possibility but it's in Staffs:

1861 Census - 66 Factory Street, Tipton, Staffordshire
George Bramwell-Head-Mar-30-Railway Lab-Derbys Tideswell.
Ann Bramwell-Wife-Mar-24-Lancs Clitheroe.
Edward Bramwell-Son-Un-8-Lancs Boscot.
William Bramwell-Son-Un-6-Lancs Newchurch.
Henry Bramwell-Son-Un-20 months-Staffs Tipton.
Septimus Bramwell-Lodger-Un-22-Railway Lab-Tideswell, Derbys.
Samuel Gibson-Lodger-Un-25-Railway Lab-Tideswell, Derbys.

And where is Boscot?

Thanks
Michelle

New Zealand Completed Requests / Re: Migration record - Wellington

Hi Lucy

Thanks for replying.

Clara didn't have a birth certificate so it is listed that she was born in Fenny Stratford, Buckinghamshire but I am questionning whether in fact she could be born in NZ.

The NZ passenger lists them as embarking in Wellington whereas the family lived in Christchurch - opposite sides of NZ so perhaps he wasn't visiting family.

I have found the following info:

16 November 1905, Richard and Maria Cross sailed on the ship ATHENIC, the masters name, C H Kempson and it was owned by Shaw Savill & Albion Co Limited, it sailed on that occasion with 521 passengers on board.  They arrived on New Years Day 1906.
CROSS Richd T 28 M 1905 London New Zealand Wellington

They appeared to be on honeymoon as they married in London on 14 November 1905.
Is there anything else I could find out about this couple?
I would like to know how long they stayed in NZ.
Where did they stay?
Why did they go there?
When did they return to England?

I know they did not stay as I also have them sailing to Australia from England in 1912.

Would appreciate any help.

Thanks

Michelle

Derbyshire / Re: Bramwell in Tideswell/Clitheroe

Sorry, wasn't very clear was I.

What I wanted to know was:

1.  Whether this is the same family on the 1851 Census as the 1861 Census but Nancy is known as Ann and George Bramwell has changed professions.

2.  If there are any people connected out there who are possible descendants of this line that will help me in my research to determine whether this George Bramwell is the one I'm a descendant of as well.

3.  Where is Boscot?  I've tried to Google it but can't find anything.

Thanks for any help.

I thought I would give you some feedback as I contacted the Aberlour Orphanage trust and they sent me some information on my great Grandmother.  It did appear that their younger John Walker Bramwell was also at the Orphanage but not listed on the Census.  Apparently one of them only had one leg so now I have to do my detective work to find out which one of the three was this and how.  It gets very interesting this.
