Family History Beginners Board / Smout's of Madeley Wood

The brick wall of my family tree in John Smout, who married Susannah Northall at St Michael's, Madeley, Shropshire on 26 Nov 1810 - seen the register at Shropshire Archives, he a bachelor, she a spinster. Found Susannah on the 1841 (where she was transcribed as Smart) and 1851 censuses, bought her death certificate. On the censuses, she says widow, daughter Martha (born in Manchester), son Charles (born in Dudley) and son Stephen (born in London). Stephen is my 2nd great grandfather, died in Parramatta (Sydney) on 16 June 1896, and I have found his grave in Rookwood Cemetery - not a convict - left his family in Oldbury and bought passage to Sydney on 2 June 1879, 101 years before I came to Australia.
John Smout was a miller on Stephen's baptism record, and on the marriage certificates of the known three children, although he is incorrectly listed as Charles Smout on the marriage certificate of Stephen.
Where did John Smout come from, and what was his year of birth? Where did he die? I suspect he was John Smout baptised 20 Oct 1782 at St James, Clerkenwell, Islington, parents John and Martha Smout. Can't find a marriage for them either, but recently at Shropshire Archives found the burial of Martha Smout, 12 May 1825 at Shifnal aged 75. Can't find baptisms for Martha or Charles Smout either, or any other children.
Has someone seen a burial entry for John Smout?
