Thanks everyone for the interesting information. Much appreciated and yes, good idea to merge the threads.

Any information of David Cossar's birth - date and where - and names of  parents or siblings, would be great.

Thanks,

Thank you so much for the conviction info.

Am I able to access this information myself (Scots Magazine) and how do I go about doing it?

Hi charlie07,
Thanks for your reply. I know Karen (a step-in-law relative, though we have never met) and we correspond regularly. I also know Agnes (Karen's cousin and your Grandfather's step-sister) very well and we keep in touch, in fact she phoned me yesterday afternoon and we had a catch-up chat. She will be turning 89 next month. And yes, both Agnes and I are in Australia - different States though.

My 'relationship' with Agnes is really through my in-law side of the family - all from Scotland. My late mother-in-law's (Rebecca MacAndrew - 1st husband John Ritchie) second husband was Leonard Montgomery Stark who was previously married to Isabella Naismith Morrison (5th born of the 7 Morrison girls). She was sister to Evelyn Morrison who was married to Andrew Elder - your Grandfather. I know, it's all very confusing!!

Other Countries / Re: Information on Robin O’Neal from India/Borneo please
« on: Thursday 30 March 17 02:50 BST (UK)  »
I have since been talking to another family member who seems to think that Robin O'Neal (b. abt 1894 in India) was in Borneo owning or running a rubber plantation and at some stage went broke.

Did the rubber business in Borneo collapse at some stage and did the plantations go out of business?

Does this ring any bells?

Other Countries / Re: Mary Hockley born 1916 in India

Hi Christine,
Thanks very much for the information. It gives me a bit more information to continue digging.

I think this one is correct -
'Mary Fredericka Hockley 1915 Madras , Christchurch , father Hockley.'

A coincidence as my Grandmother Violet's middle name was Frederica (Violet Frederica Hockley) - she was Lionel's brother.

         1. Why would the Ecclesiastical entries have the two records 4 years apart for the 'same' person i.e 1938 and 1942 ?

         2. How do I find out if Mary Hockley and Joseph/Leonard White had any children?

Hi Bernie,
I was unaware of any link between the Cheeseman and Hockley names..... this is news to me.

My Hockley family is from around the Surrey area and some of them were in India for several generations. My link is through my Grandmother Violet Hockley who was born in India in 1886.

I've just had a look at the 'Hockley Page of Remembrance' and found my Grandmothers brother -

L. Hockley (Lionel)
Private
7656
North Western Railway, Machine Gun Sect., Indian Army
Died on Tuesday, 19th September 1916.
Cemetery:  MOMBASA (MBARAKI) CEMETERY, Kenya

London and Middlesex / Re: George Green married to Wilkie Plews
« on: Thursday 16 March 17 01:42 GMT (UK)  »
Hi Kay,
Thanks very much for the info you have found for me.
I did a few checks in FamilySearch and found the following for a Henry Wilkie Green – whether he is the same person you mentioned above??  The following dates here are conflicting -

1)   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QK1W-NLTQ
Henry Wilkie Green (trade – joiner), wife Fanny  – Christening of Dau. Ada May Green on 16 October 1889 at St Matthew, Arwick, Lancashhire, England

2)   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2JF2-YDD
Henry Wilkie Green, Death Oct – Dec 1890, At St George Hanover Square, London, England

3)   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JMHH-7B9
Henry Wilkie Green (trade – joiner), wife Fanny  – Christening of Dau. Florence Cecilia Green on 03 March 1897 at St Silas, Arwick, Lancashhire, England

4)   https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWBF-Y8Y
Henry Wilkie Green – 1911 Census in South Manchester  – aged 44 – Birthplace: Manchester Ardwick, Lancashire

Still can’t find any information on George Green (guessing he was born abt. 1830) - I'll chase up on Tetworth and Mary A.  Maybe he remarried after Wilkie Plews died in Scotland in 1887?

Are there any records on the marriage to Wilkie Plews?
