Devon / HELP!! Higher Cemetery in EXETER
« on: Monday 05 October 15 03:06 BST (UK)  »
Hi All,

I am so totally confused over the layout for the Higher Cemetery in Exeter. I have many family members buried there and I am convinced that some of them would definitely have a headstone but I am so lost over the meaning of the sections. If someone who has had experience with this Cemetery then please can you lend some advice!

As I understand it the system for recording locations has changed a number of times over its 150 year history. The map which is on a sign at the cemetery and also online is very complicated (in my opinion). I can see that the newer sections, HK, ZE, RC etc are pretty straight forward but most of mine are in the older part. I have visited the cemetery twice but only found one out of around 25!

The one I found was Mary Ann Hodge who in the record says the locality is:

Section: D
Division: -
Number: 249C

This grave was in the square on the map marked C8 - C10

It makes no sense!!

Another one, my great-grandfather Charles Percy Bromley reads:

Section: D
over both Division and Number says: G82

As far as I can tell there is not a single "G" or even one implied anywhere on the map.

Anyone want to try to help figure it out.......?

Does anyone know the local parishes with graveyards around Highams Park?

Cornwall / Penzance Cemetery Proprietors Registry Book 1845 1906

I have seen that there was a CD c.2005 which had the transcripts for the Private Burial Ground in Heamoor.

Apparently it contains:
Proprietors Registry Book which has the Registry of the name of the Proprietors; a Plan of the Ground; the Registry of Certificates for allotment of Ground, also all the Interments in the Ground.

I've been looking to purchase this but I can't find a link anywhere

Can anyone help?

WOW! Thank you Sandra and Christine!!

So much found - Brilliant!

I have just seen Marshall and Theresa's death registrations and they are both buried at Calvary?? Cemetery. Although the Calvary Cemetery website lists the burial records and I can't find them  ???

Marshall was the informant for his wife's death but he doesn't seem to know her parents names or her maiden name which is odd. especially if there are family members of hers nearby....

I wonder who Mrs. Charles Hornung was.

Dear Rootschatters,

I am struggling for information about Marshall Bromley who emigrated from Cornwall to Cleveland, Ohio around 1872.

After 1872 I can only find him in the 1910 US Census living with a wife Theresa in Cleveland Ward 10, Cuyahoga, Ohio (he is transcribed as Marshall Tromley)

Also I think I've found a record for a marriage for him (transcribed as Marshall Bramley) in Cuyahoga County in 1882. His spouse is Rosa Garlic..... Could Rosa be Theresa??

Does anyone know where I could find more information about Marshall and Rosa/Theresa?
Such as where is he in 1880 and 1900? and where did he die/where was he buried?

Thank you

I have just purchased 50 credits to view records of burials and cremations in the Barnsley area but I only needed to use 2 of them to find what I needed.

As I don't have any use for them and instead of them going to waste I'm happy to do a quick search if you want to PM me the name etc.

The Cemeteries are:

Agnes is not in North Curry, Chard  :(

My thoughts now are that her husband Robert went to live in North Curry after Agnes died. (another daughter and son-in-law lived there!)

As I have only the knowledge that she died at Hatfield Heath (maybe her daughter's home) in 1954, Agnes and Robert may have lived elsewhere in Essex or East London.

Perhaps trying to follow them through electoral registers may be worthwhile? They hare living in Gordon Avenue, Highams Hill in 1915  which is 40 years to track!! eek!

amondg, I think that is a good idea but I'm not sure how to find out which funeral directors were in the area in the 1950s.....
