Renfrewshire / Mccaulley 1841 Census Paisley
« on: Thursday 12 November 15 08:50 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I'm looking for the family of John Mccaulley born 1793-1796 Ireland.
I have them in the 1851 census.
John(1793), Mary(1805), Mary(1827), Ellen(1830), Ann (1833) and John (1835).
They are at 11 Church Street Abbey.
The father is a road labourer and the girls are doing cotton spinning.
A girl Betsy was born in 1841.  It has her place of birth as Ireland.  So I may be looking for people who are actually in Ireland.

the spelling of the last name in the 51 Census is MacAuley. It also comes as Macauley, Mccauley and McCauley. and that is without any u for w swaps.

thank you for your help.

Ancestry transcript of the 1901 gives Laura/Susan's age as 63 (b. 1838-ish)

A Susannah Macauley death is registered on FreeBMDs:
Jan-Mar 1917 Blackburn,  Susannah Macauley age 78

Hello Tanya,
     Baptism Record from (A*try)
Parish Church of St Peter, Liverpool.
John son of John (Labourer) & Susanna Macauley, Cemeas? St.
     Baptized 7th September 1862. (No. 2328)
     Born 6th August 1862.
Susanna's name has been transcribed as Adrianna!

               Regards,     Dod.

Hi Dod. another name - adrianna, laura and susana.... classic.  I'll have a look at a map of Liverpool. this isn't a street name I've seen.  I had them living in a particular street (can't put my hand on the notes) but it wasn't this street. Fabulous record. thanks!

If she is in fact Susan rather than Laura:

1861: John Mc Cauley 25 b Scotland and Susan 25 b Ireland with son Thomas 1yr 8mo, in Liverpool.
1871: Susan McCawley, 34 b Liverpool (hmmm...), widowed and in workhouse in Liverpool.

avm228 these are the people I have as the line.  I have John from scotland actually from ireland in the scottish census records of 1841.
1871 I have son John in a house full of other young coal mining people.
thanks

thank you to all for your help

Barbara is this from 1901 info?

Mother's name is also transcribed (on Ancestry) as 'Susan MacLeauley'.
It's a tricky one - doesn't quite look like either Susan or Laura to me

RG13/3860/115/33

yes my research had pointed me towards Susan Macauley from the 1911 Census at Milshaw Lane Accrington even though the son's age is out by a good 10 years (he wouldn't be the first person to remarry at remove a few years from his age)

Hi
I'm still trying to find my exact John (James) Macauley.

in 1891 he is working as an Iron Works Labourer born in Liverpool aged 25(1866) and married to Mary Bradshaw.  These are definitely the people.

however in 1901 Mary McCauley is with her son and her Sister. at 3 Briggs Yard Accrington.

I think i have John MacAuley at 3 Bramly Street Accrington aged 38 (1863) Liverpool working as an Iron Works Labourer.
AND HE IS WITH HIS MOTHER AN IRISH WIDOW. Her name is given as Laura.

find my past gives her a name but I can't find her in the 1891 or any other census.  remember he was born in Liverpool in 1863-66.  So where has she been... and who can find her?  is her name in 1901 a different name?

Thanks for any help.
