Oxfordshire / Re: Ismay and Florence GREEN missing birth records
« on: Wednesday 09 August 17 20:16 BST (UK)  »
Baptized 10 Jul 1892....

Edith Mary b. 29 May 1890

Ismay Dorothy b. 27 Apr 1892

Daughters of William and Tryphena Green; William a Laborer; abode Wolvercote

Parish of Wolvercote Oxford

So it looks like Ismay's age was recorded incorrectly in the census.

PB

Edith Mary's birth is registered as Edith Louisa (Headington RD, 1890 Q3) ::) but it is the same person.

I thought the year could be wrong when I couldn't find her as a twin to Maud.  It looks as though Jebber may have found her registered as Ebney Dorothy - right mmn, although why she was registered in Woodstock is a puzzle ???.

Baptized 07 Oct 1900....

Georgina Florence Green b. 09 Aug 1900

Parents William and Tryphena of High St Headington; William a Laborer

Parish of Headington Oxford

PB

Her birth is registered as just Georgina (Headington RD, 1900 Q3) ::).

Many thanks for your help.

have you tried using the birth search at www.gro.gov.uk or are you using freebmd?
I haven't tried the birth search; I think I'll have to investigate.  I've been using The Genealogist and freebmd.

Is this one you already know about (or not your family)

GREEN, GEORGINA       mmn TUCK

I found this one but had disregarded it (right surname/year/quarter/RD, wrong forename), however, mmn TUCK is correct ;D.  Perhaps this is the elusive Florence ???

Oxfordshire / Ismay and Florence GREEN missing birth records
« on: Wednesday 09 August 17 17:38 BST (UK)  »
I’m have been looking for the birth records for the 12 :o children of William and Tryphena Green, whose marriage is registered in Abingdon RD 1875 Q3.  They appear on the 1881 to 1911 censuses for Oxfordshire where all but their eldest child were born.

It appears that in 1911 all 12 children were surviving and I have found birth registration records for ten of them.  However I’m at a dead end with two “problem” children.

Ismay appears on the 1901 census, her birthplace is Headington and she is aged 6 years, apparently the same age as her sister Maud (registered Headington RD 1895 Q2 vol 3A page 852).  There is no Green child registered at the same time as Maud so it doesn’t appear they are twins.

I’ve tried searching as Ismay and Esme in both Oxfordshire and Berkshire in the years between her immediate siblings but cannot track her down.  She is not with the family in 1911 and I can’t find her (or anyone who might be her) anywhere else either.

Florence also appears on the 1901 census with a birthplace of Headington and she is aged 8 months  (so born around August 1900); she is also on the 1911, aged 10.  Again, I cannot find a birth record for her.

I’d appreciate another set of brain cells having a think about where I can find these two sisters.

. . . as someone has already said above, usually when we're looking at the 1901 and 1911 censuses, the only people (at best) whom we might have known and met are our grandparents.
Sorry I'm a bit late to this thread.  My father is on the 1911 census, age two.  As well as him I knew his elder brother and mother while I was growing up, so have never felt that far away from the Edwardians and Victorians. :)

The Genealogist has been my main resource when I didn’t renew my FindMyPast subscription after they went through their “restructure”.  I’ve found it easy to use and most of the transcriptions pretty accurate – a few “how did they get that from the original ???” but more often unclear originals ::) that are only obvious if you know what you’re looking for.

As suggested, try before you buy might be the way to go. :)

Thank you from me too.  I don't have many that come from Scotland - most of them seem to have "married in" - so this should get me started on finding out more details :)

Berkshire / Re: Mary Ann Brill of Reading
« on: Saturday 23 January 16 23:04 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you so much Jackie for tracking her down.  This Mary Ann is my gg grandmother and marries into the Mander family but she has a sister-in-law, Mary Anne Mander, who was also born in 1829.  I already have Mary Anne's baptism record so keeping the two of them separate should be easier now.

Yes, she did have a sister, Harriett, age 8 on the 1841 census, so birth year 1833 (or possibly late 1832), plus an older brother James ::) age 15 in 1841.  They are both on my "to do" list . . .

I appreciate your help :)
