Occupation Interests / Money lenders
« on: Saturday 07 October 06 20:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello

I was recently lent a few old documents by a relative and was very suprised to find that my husbands grandmother was a money lender in Liverpool in 1910, There were two licenses for different years, does anyone know how I can find out how long she was a moneylender,
I know her sister was a well known Mondey Lender around the Athol Street area of Liverpool, but we were all taken by surprise when this was uncovered, If any one can point me in the right direction I would be most grateful, and if anyone still owesher any money to her my address is........................

best wishes

to all

Cheshire / Re: help please, can you name this school on the 1861 census
« on: Sunday 09 July 06 21:21 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Thank you both so much, I have had another look at the image and I can see now where it says Convent, guess I was a bit excited about my "discovery"
It is lookinglike it may well be her, but I will have to do a bit more digging. I have been told that she was very religious which makes sense if she went to a convent school.
I have been to the website and will print it out to take it all in. Think a trip to Chester is on the cards
Thanks again you wonderful people

Cheshire / help please, can you name this school on the 1861 census
« on: Sunday 09 July 06 18:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello everyone,

You all must know this feeling, I have been searching for a relative for a long time now and just by chance the other evening I think I may have found her. I have the page of the 1861 census but cannot find the name of the school that she is at. The pages on Information removed due to copyright violation. See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/copyright.php for more details

RootsChat must deal with any breach of copyright by its members.

this issue.

That is the info on the page I printed there is everyting there but the name of the school, as my local knowledge of Chester is nil I am hoping that someone will be able to help please.
Annie Gearey/ gearing/garing we are unsure of the true spelling of her name married a man named George Broster he was a boatman in born in Cheshire, they were married (I presume) about 1868 I have been unable to find a marriage for these people, I am thinking if I can get the school name, and maybe pin it down to an exact area of where she may have lived, maybe I could pin down her marriage to a nearby church, I have been looking for this womans marriage for 3 years now, alot of maybes in there, just maybe someone out there maybe able to find it for me,Maybe....... well you just never know,

Thanks for stopping to look

Armed Forces / Re: Citadel Barracks 1901

Hi Annie,

Thanks for the reply, I knew someone would know were to look.
Yes I have a copy of my grandfathers discharge papers. He is listed as Rifleman no 553  2Bn Kings Royal Rifles he joined in Dec 1897 aged 19 1/2
discharged Dec 1905
It is highly likely that he was in South Africa in 1901 or somewhere between here and there, as he had medals for South Africa.
The only photo I have of him shows him in Liverpool Pals uniform, when he joined them  in WW1
The Michael on the census seemed so close in age and details I just had to try and check it out, you know how it is.

best wishes

Hello guys,

I just know one of you will know this,

1901 census I have found a man same name as my grandfather Michael Moore listed as Militiaman, living in Citadel Barracks Dover.  What reg. would have been there at that time. I know that my grandfather was in the Kings Royal Rifles corps, and had served in South Africa.
How do I check if this is him listed on the census.

hope you can help

Hi Doedoe

Don't know weather this may help you. My grandfather was in the Boer War and he was also from Liverpool. He was in the Kings Royal Rifle Corps. I think they were based in Winchester. They are now known as the Green Jackets.
I know when I was looking for info on him I was looking at the wrong Kings.

hope it helps a bit.
