Armed Forces / Military records FREE on Ancestry.com.au until 28 April
« on: Saturday 27 April 13 10:26 BST (UK)  »
Ancestry.com.au are offering free access to all their military records from around the world until 28th April,

www.ancestry.com.au/cs/au/anzac2013

If you registered through a different Ancestry site you should still be able to use your existing ID & password.

This is similar to the recent Find My Past offer which I presume expired yesterday,
www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,644252.0.html
www.findmypast.com.au/articles/anzac-day-stories

May be worth watching out for similar offers next year.

The Common Room / Re: 40 credits for free on FindMyPast
« on: Thursday 17 January 13 23:25 GMT (UK)  »
Oh, I'll try it again.   Still haven't had an email from the daily mail.

Once you have entered enough passwords at http://findmypast.dailymail.co.uk the codes should appear immediately on the same screen. If you log in there you should have two codes for FindMyPast and a message 'There are no more passwords to enter!'. If not then there will still be a box for entering passwords.

To sum up, the current codes for FindMyPast appear to be:

LCXMASFREE
SNOWMAN
DISPCRED
WDYTYA   (expires 31 January 2013)
TVOFFER   (expires 2 February 2013)
FMPTV2   (expires 19 February 2013)

I don't know if the first two are still valid. These are completely separate to the Daily Mail offer and are entered at:

To use the Daily Mail offer, start by registering at http://findmypast.dailymail.co.uk. You are allowed one registration per email address. Then use this same link to enter any 20 passwords in any order. Sandra has listed 20, but the other possibilities are:

farm
grandmother
great
record
scandal
separation

After each set of 10 passwords you are given a code for FindMyPast. To redeem your two codes log in at www.findmypast.co.uk then go to 'Activate voucher' (www.findmypast.co.uk/VoucherRedemptionServlet). There is no limit to how many vouchers can be redeemed on one FindMyPast account.

You may also be given a code for Scotland's People but it is too late to redeem these.

Their original images did not have this column blanked out, so there are no new images to be created or edited. They would have anticipated removing this temporary blanking out when they began creating the database. I understand that reinstating the original images involves some work but I can't accept that it is a mammoth task for an IT corporation such as Ancestry. FindMyPast managed to remove their blanks as per their original timetable with no hiccups.

Scotland / Re: Look Up- Register of seamen 1835-1844
« on: Friday 12 October 12 19:52 BST (UK)  »
The maritime crew lists I found on FindMyPast were little different to what I had already found free of charge on the National Archives website.

Ancestry also have masters' certificates. You can find more about these on the Occupation Interests board.

If he had died at sea his death may still be on Scotland's People.
