Family Bibles / Billington - trull family bible
« on: Tuesday 25 April 06 19:06 BST (UK)  »
Our family bible is inscribed in the flyleaf  "to Kate Elizabeth (*)rull on the occasion of her marriage in 1876". She married a Billington - William I believe - and I think her maiden name was Trull. This is an unusual name.
According to Ancestry.com there were only about 30 Trulls (an average) in the UK in 1891 (not surprising as Trull can mean prostitute).
The marriage is recorded in Northalleton, Yorks - although the family later lived in Dewsbury.
The bible has come to me through Mary Ellen - (Kate's daughter) to her daughter Annie Summersgill who was my grandmother. Annie married Dick Field so the bible has now passed through four surnames.
Is it now the Field family bible or the original Trull or somewhere inbetween?

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Howlett family
« on: Friday 21 April 06 07:41 BST (UK)  »
(same as posted on west yorks)
Please help to confirm a link I have traced between Albert Charles Howlett (known as Charles) of Barwick in Elmett Yorks to (perhaps?) the Howletts who lived at the White Lion in Croxton Norfolk. I know from oral records that Charles Albert came from Garboldisham which is about 8 miles from Croxton. He was born abt 1878 and died abt1956.
1881 lists an Alfred at the White Lion with a son called albert but I wonder if he is the right one?
Any in between links to confirm this line appreciated.

Hi tanja,
Thanks, yes to the 1st , florence ida rang bells when I told my father, although he never knew her.
I need to find the best way of getting the marriage certificate, I have the volume and page number from freebmd.
I have also chased down the details for ben's marriage to a barbara exley in 1859 and should be able to move a step on from there. Your short list will help.

joe
thanks
Ernest appears to have married Florence Ida Fox
I think I have the Fox family back to her grandfather John Fox via Sam Fox (again thro freebmd and 1881c)
Ernest was a mining engineer and a big name in the salvation army in Dewsbury. His son (my grandfather) Dick was estranged from the family.
It is good to see castle hill - I could see it daily from my parent's house in Honley when I lived there.

Hi Joe,
thanks for replying
this looks to be the same Ben Field family. there were other children (10 at 1881) and the wife is listed as Barbary. On freebmd there is a record for Marriages Dec 1859 Dewsbury 9b pg 824 where a Barbara is listed with Ben Field. This too I feel is them. Barbary / Barbara is probably a miss transcription and the eldest was abt19 in 1881.
Still, I cannot be sure that this is the Ernest Field that was my great grandfather because I don't have solid dates for his birth or death.
I only stated this at the weekend but am addicted - is there a cure?

Re Ernest Field - father of Dick (not Richard) b1906
Any help appreciated. I think his father was Ben based on 1881 census (age 41 at time of census)
I have no dates for Ernest but believe he was born about 1880 based on guesstimate of his age when he died about 1956.
