Sussex Lookup Requests / Re: Looking for Charles Parlett

Hi Deb and Welcome to RootsChat!

Thanks for those dates. I did get a death certificate for Charles, but I was never certain that it was the right one.  I'm away until 1 July but I'd like to compare notes with you when I get back.

Cheers, Jane

Hmm. I've discovered an 1859 NSW marriage for James Arther and Margaret Clinton which would negate the Scottish connection and would be inconsistent with the birth dates of some of the children. But Clinton works with the daughter Jane's middle name.

Looks like two couples, both James and Margaret Arthur/Arther.  But which one ??? Looks like my friend may have to invest in a few certificates to be certain.

Thanks Ev

That looks like the right family and according to this tree James' wife was Margaret Clinton, b 1836, dau of Henry Clinton and Mary Malloy.  I did consider Clinton as Margaret's family name given her youngest daughter Jane's middle name but I haven't found any record of the marriage so far.

The tree doesn't have any geographical info so I'll have to see if the owner is still contactable.

I haven't looked at the census records yet Billy.

Thanks, Jane

West Lothian (Linlithgowshire) / James ARTHUR Linlithgow

Hi Folks

James Arthur 26, a Slater from Linlithgow, arrived in Sydney NSW in 1856 on the Nimroud with his wife Margaret 25.  Their infant son James died on the voyage.  From the NSW BMD index Margaret's parents were Henry and Mary but I don't yet know her surname.  James parents unknown.

Their children's names (all born in NSW) were:  Margaret, Ann, William Henry, Mary J., James T., Alfred E., Frederick William, Ada Grace, and Jane Clinton.

Any help in finding their marriage and parents would be appreciated,

Thanks, Jane

Think I may have found the deaths and burials of James and Margaret. There are folk by these names buried in the same grave at Rookwood. Anglican: AAAA 539

It fits with deaths on NSWBDM: James at Newtown 1919 and Margaret at Marrickville 1910. Margaret's parents being William and Mary, which sit well with the Scottish naming pattern of children.

Jamjar

Hi Jamjar

Your post quotes Margaret's parents as William & Mary - is that from the headstone or cemetery records?  The NSWBMD for Margaret Arthur 1910/10004 Marrickville, lists her parents as Henry and Mary? If there's a discrepancy I guess we'll just have to check the death certificate.

Great, thanks Jamjar.

I was considering those two as likely suspects for James and Margaret in the NSWBMD as they fit with the locations of some of their children.
