Can someone assist:

I am a pensioner lady with limited resources.  Yesterday I was going through 1837online.com.  I was sure I was under "marriages" In the overseas section.

I found an entry.

Diacono - Frederick - vol 5  page 307.

Then a blackout.

I lost it - and spent most if not all of my credits trying to find it again.

The time line would be around 1879 and no later than 1893 - that much I do know.

I am sure I was in marriages.  Frederick was my GGrandfather and family insisted he  had married twice.

I was also looking for his death - perhaps I got both confused.

Can anyone look this up for me?

Hi Valda - Not sure of exactly anything now.  But at the time, when I found the entry, I was somewhat taken aback with surprise when I saw it,

No future in getting old and forgetful.

The dust has settled and it is 4.15 a.m. Down Under time Sunday - perhaps, with clearer thinking, I might tackle it again.  Failing that - I will ask for a look-up.

Do I do that here? Whom do I ask.?

Sorry to be a pain.
Thanks
Lucy

Hello Valda - I thought I would re-post here for continuity.
My question will come at the end of this epistle.

First - I have what appears to be the certificate of my GGrandmother's Death - (Louisa Annie Philipine Diacono nee Wiss)
One hang-up - No first names on a death at sea just Diacono - Female - date and cause..

Further - I found that Frederick was in Suakin in 1885 (Sudan campaign, but not a soldier)

I have been researching 1837online.com - and made some more discoveries.  I found the Deaths of Frederick Diacono's parents. I have their certificates - which lead to a brother (possibly George or Giovanni as the abbreviation is Gio).  I also discovered that Fred had a sister (Mary?) although I only know this through a death certificate entry. MG Zacher - son-in-law of Fredericks father Giuseppe Lorenzo Diacono (aka Joseph Laurence Diacono)
The fact that my grandmother had a third name Carmela - clinched Fredericks mother.
Both died in Alexandria within 9 months of each other at Bacos Station, Ramleh, Alexandria.

I have narrowed down my search now to finding Frederick in El Hadara Prison in Alexandria and through the kindness of a Rotarian living there, he has offered to seek information about Frederick's final resting place e.g. with his parents or a record at El Hadara Prison.

The Prison angle came from a friend in Melbourne who once lived in Alexandria as a child.

Now...having achieved this modicum of success - I have a real poser.

Firstly, I am a pensioner of limited means which allows me to search within the bounds of my income... having said that, I was looking in the 1837online.com overseas BDM records again in the hope of finding more on Frederick.

Here's what happened - I am sure I was looking in Marriages - the family is firm on this matter - they say that Frederick married again.(e.g. after Louisa Annie's death 1879 and before the trial 1893)

Yes - I found Frederick in Vol 5 Page 307....
Then! the lights went out - power failed, computer died.

After all that I went back looking - I figured anywhere between 1878/9 and 1893.

I used up all my Credits...for the life of me I cannot find this silly entry again.

I went through the History of what I was looking at...I lost it. Every time I clicked - the credits disappeared.  I began making errors and looking at stuff twice and three times over.  I stopped!

The entry I was looking at and jotting down information at the time of the power failure was, I am sure, marriages.

Diacono - Frederick Alexandria vol 5 page 307.

Can you help me locate this again?

The background above is just an outline of my follow through on things.

Thanks
Lucy

Hi, thank you for the advice re: payment.

Yes - the banks here are greedy.  I had some money put in my account from Sydney and I was charged $10 for the exercise. That is 5 + UK pounds.

My friend is a distant cousin on another side of the family and she offers to do this for me, gratis.

On my side of her side of the family, gathering information cost me $200 in one month...that was 1/4 of a month's pension for me. I shared my information with her and she is repaying me...I think this is how it works.

I arranged a special Cr. Card with a $500 ceiling for use on the Internet...not that there is much to clean out. Only problem is - one has to pay them back.

A close friend here in Australia received $US 30 for a birthday gift and was charged $A20 to cash it!

For those of us oldies interested in Family records, it can be a hard row to hoe. I think others in the same limited financial situation would agree.

Sometimes it is hard.  But I cope and hope to get things right. Thanks for thinking of me.
Cheers
Lucy

Hi Valda
Now...things have fallen in place a bit better. I can see things clearer.

Gee - Thanks heaps for this - it's a confirmation of what I had plus some extras... I can work with this.

So, Samuel was Alive.   You are right about the childbearing years too.  We dare not try it too much these days.   My husband is one of 11.

Now...let me work on this information.

I apologise for lack of attention to the Pilgrim side of things, but, in hindsight, yes - when Charlotte re-married, she had 3 littlies - they had to be somewhere.

Can you leave me with this a bit.  I will ferret out the www.gro.gov.uk URL you put in for the certificates but will still ask my friend to act for me in the UK.  It is woefully expensive from Australia, and me being a pensioner to boot.  Looks good in English pounds until one converts to Aust$ then the Bank adds a hefty fee.

You have, as always, been a tremendous help. You are absolutely wizard a getting information.

Thank you again - if I get stuck - I will call upon you again.

Hi again.

I know some of the stuff we look at is full of errors.

Aaron Died 5 months before Samuel was born in 1818.

This left Charlotte (Durberbridge) Fassett/Fawcett, with three children

e.g.Henry born in 1814 would be 4 years old.
William born 1816 would be 2 years old
      Samuel - not born yet.

Someone got in touch with my brother telling him they shared a mutual GG grand mother.

The information supplied stated that Charlotte remarried very quickly after Aaron's death - 1819/20.
She married a Thomas Pilgrim.

Such being the case,  Charlotte either left her three children with some other member of the family to rear or took them with her into the Pilgrim marriage.
The latter is more likely.

I haven't acted on this information other than to believe Charlotte went on to have about another 11 children.

So...Children reared without a father would very likely be prone to error in putting in information.

I will think on what you have written above.  Getting a certificate may be a cost, but I have a friend in the UK - on holiday in Greece at the moment - who just might help me out as she has a friend in the National Archives.

This is a slow process.   Leave me with it for a bit.

It is possible the lot is a complete mix up from the word go!

Thanks for your help  and pointing me into the right directions - each avenue has to turn up something.

Some pondering to do too. Will be in touch.

Back again Valda.

I think I tried to do something with colour when things went wrong, so I will leave the messing around alone!

My Samuel 1818 - his father was Aaron Fassett/Fawcett.

Aaron's parents were Samuel Fassett (1754) of Thatcham and Sarah Swaine (1748) of St Marys, Reading.

Previous family all came from Thatcham...It is possible that Aaron's family moved to Reading at the time of this marriage.

Aaron (1791) married Charlotte Durberidge( (c 1795)
on 2/9/1813 at St Mary Reading.

They had three sons, as previously outlined.

William Fassett/Fawcett (1816)  born Mddlsx, christ. St Marys, Reading - went to New Zealand

Henry Fassett/Fawcett (1814).  christ St Marys, Reading -  Henry is my direct ancestor...

Samuel Fassett/Fawcett (1818) christ St Marys, Reading

I am thinking. Some records show that Henry died in 1814, But he was alive and he married Harriett Eddicett -  Sept 1839.  The Certificate shows that his father was Aaron Fawcett.

Aaron died 5 months before Samuel was born on or about 25 May 1818.  His name is on Henry's Marriage Lines because someone put it there e.g. Henry, the Minister or a clerk.

Now...is it possible it was Samuel that died, not Henry and all this time I have been barking up the wrong tree.

Because I could not find him, initially, it led me to believe he may have left the country at some time in his teens or twentys.

I am thinking Samuel 1818 died.  Isle of Wight details don't match.

Sorry to be a pain.
