Hi again

Yes I have Matthew and his wife Jane (nee Preston).  Matthew is my great x2 great uncle.  I didn't realise that it was the post office he had lived in tho'!!

Later they lived at Woodside in Cononley where they farmed.

Matthew and Jane are buried at Carleton, there is Matthew and Jane plus their daughter Alice, and  also "two sons and one daughter who died in infancy".  I saw their graves on a visit earlier this year.

I will contact you via pm to exchange more personal info.

Hi again

That is very useful information.  I'll have a look through what I have and see if I can submit something.

Re my Archer family, yes they are in my direct line.  Mary Archer is my great great grandmother.  She married William Garnett and lived in Carleton.  although she was born in 1850 to William Archer and Margaret (nee Whitaker) in Cononley.

I have done a lot of research into this branch of my tree.  Although the archer family did seem to originate (as far as I know at this time) in Cononley many of them took residence and then had children born in Carleton.

I am more than happy to share any information with you.  What Archer's do you have in Carleton? and are you also related to this family?

Hi again.

I have been working like a trojan on this all yesterday.

I am not assuming either parentage as yet, both are from websites and we know the golden rule!!

I am reasonably confident that Mary Snowden who married Robert Watson was Nancy's sister, and that Mary and Robert brought up young thomas as you have previously found Andrea.

The marriage certificate witnesses when Thomas married Ann in 1866 gives Cork Townson and Mary Bailey.  I havn't linked Cork into my tree anywhere yet, but Mary was the sister of Benjamin Bailey who married Alice Watson, daughter of Robert and Mary.

I had never thought about date of baptisms and the adult side of it before.  I double checked their wedding and Robert and Mary were married 5 Jan 1837, so perhaps she did miss the boat with her siblings.

I have also contacted Skipton library who checked Holy Trinity Skipton baptisms.  They confirmed everything I knew about Thomas, except the late of part was actually "late of Cowling", not late of deceased or late of the workhouse.  They also told me that the Workhouse records were destroyed in 1970!  Not good.

I don't think I will ever be able to confirm 100% that Mary and Nancy were sisters or who their parents were!  But of course I will keep trying.

Also in 1841 it seems that Nancy was living with the Birtwistle family at Lane Ends Keighley (Oakworth).  John Birtwistle was an inkkeper.  Perhaps Thomas' father was drinking there one night ........ and one thing lead to another lol ........

Many thanks for your input
Amanda

Hi I am hoping someone can please help decipher the two witnesses names.

I think the lower one is Mary Brierley, but I am very unsure about the top one.

Any thoughts appreciated.  thankyou
