London & Middlesex Resources / Records of a Manslaughter trial in 1947
« on: Wednesday 03 March 21 15:06 GMT (UK)  »
Hi

My mum's cousin was charged with manslaughter in 1947 when he was involved in a car crash in Moorfields EC London and his father and one other person died. I have found the relevant article in the Daily Herald Newspaper in May 1947. I am not sure if any coroners records will exist for this year there was definitely a postmortem. Does anyone know if there would be court records from this period online? My Mum told me when I was a child that the trial had been heard in the Old Bailey - but the online records stop in 1913 I think. If not the Old Bailey does anyone know of what other court the trial might have been in. Im not a Londoner so I dont know that area very well. Thanks Vicky

Hi Jorose, thanks I was thinking there would be little records left but it was worth an ask. That could very well be Joseph's wife Mary and would fit with not being able to find any more children born to the couple after 1906. The story is that he married Mary in India but not yet found a marriage so this part could very well not be true.

I do keep looking at Adolphus and wondering how/if he's related, on some of the records though Adolphus seems to be an engineer ... would there be any engineer in the family of an acrobat - did he 'up' the title of his job to sound better on the baptisms - who knows...

It's all questions at the moment. The story is Joseph's from Sicily but Guiseppe Cacacie seems to be a fairly common name.  Vicky

Does anyone know where I could search for records of the Indian circus in the late 1800's early 1900's - would there actually be any records to research? Trying to see when Joseph went to India and if he actually came from Sicily. Thanks Vicky

Travelling People / Joseph Cacacie - Acrobat in Indian Circus
« on: Monday 21 September 20 09:34 BST (UK)  »
Hi I am trying to trace a Joseph Cacacie - all thats known is a family story that he was born in Sicily, ended up in an orphanage and then joined the circus and travelled to India where he met his wife and had children. He definitely ended up in India as we have a baptism of his son Albert Joseph in 1910 in Madras India, the record says Joseph was an acrobat in the Indian Circus, his wife was called Mary Ann. I'm not sure where to start to look for Indian Circus records - if there are any to be researched?? Many Thanks. Vicky

Hi you lovely people, I'm trying to look at Albert Joseph Cacacie's family. He was born about 1906 in Belagum India, parents Joseph and Mary Ann Cacacie. The story was that Albert Joseph is from Sicily originally but was in the circus and travelled to India, that he was orphaned and thats how he ended up travelling with the circus but I have found his baptism in Madras on the familysearch website. Albert Joseph came to England with his family in 1958, but I've had no luck finding out more about his parents. I've ordered the book researching anglo-indian ancestors to see if that will help. Albert Joseph's wife's family were Anglo Indian and involved with the Railways so am wondering if the Cacacies were as well and that the whole circus/orphan thing is just a story... Thanks Vicky

Westmorland Lookup Requests / Kendal Look up please for Leonard Machell
« on: Wednesday 10 June 20 09:59 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I'm trying to find the baptism Leonard Machell, according to the census he was born abt 1785-90 in Kendal. I'm not sure if he married in Kendal, I believe his first wife was Mary and he had three children, Leonard, Sarah Ann and John born I think in Manchester approx 1827-1830 (according to the census). Mary died before 1835 as he married his second wife Alice Armstead in this year. With the current situation obviously the archives are closed, I had a look at the Cumbria FHS website but they dont seem to have baptisms for Kendal. Would anyone be able to look up records they have for Kendal to see if Leonard was baptised there about this time? Thanks Vicky
