Rosie
Wife is Unpaid domestic
He was in the RAF at the end of WW1 but did not serve in WW2 - by then he was a reserved occ skilled worker for Ford - according to family folklore. The informant on the death cert was the father of the guy I am helping with this.Thank you for your suggestion / questions

ev
that's new - thank you

DonM - thank you We don't think its him as David because the preceding data for that David takes us to the other CLACHER family at least so far !!!

Thank you for looking each of you

Dunbartonshire / Hector David McArthur Wilson CLACHER - what happened to him
« on: Thursday 13 August 20 09:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi Everyone
Mods - can you link this to Essex and maybe USA/Michigan please where we know this man had links.

Essentially I am looking for his death /burial / re marriage - anything but he is so elusive after 1932. There are 2 CLACHER families from Dunbartonshire and so I shall list what we know, which I hope may help one of you good folk help me find out what happened to Hector.
We think in or after 1932 he may have returned to the USA without his wife and family?

B - 19 Jan 1898 Dumbarton
1901 - 10 Rochead Place, Dumbarton with parents
4 June 1918 - RAF
10 Oct 1921 m - Dumbarton to Catherine CAMPBELL
1922 - Dumbarton - daughter Bernadette Maria CLACHER born
11 Aug 1922 Departs Glasgow for USA
19 Aug 1922 Arrives Canada
21 Aug 1922 Arrives Michigan USA
16 Mar 1923 wife and daughter depart Glasgow for Canada en route to Detroit
1924 Detroit - daughter Catherine Campbell CLACHER born
1927 Detroit daughter Gloria Ann CLACHER (aka Annie) born
1928 Detroit son James Paul CLACHER (aka Sonny) born
2 Oct 1930 Departs Montreal
10 Oct 1930 Arrives Liverpool
1932 Dumbarton son Daniel Campbell CLACHER born

then nothing

1939 - registers show wife (married) and 4 children in Hornchurch, Essex - No Hector

Hector did work for the Ford Motor Company in Detroit and possibly in Essex.

His wife and children frequently traveled between Dumbarton and Detroit until 1932.

His mother moved to Detroit after 1939 and died there as did some of his children. Therefore we assume strong links continued in Detroit after the family came back to UK in 1932

His wife is buried in Dumbarton D;6 March 1967

Any suggestions please?

Thank you for taking the time to have a read

Oxfordshire / Re: Baptismal Lookup Please, Cooke
« on: Sunday 28 June 20 08:51 BST (UK)  »
Hi
Obviously the last name spelling variants do not help here. Clearly as Oxford being the shire's city many people drifted there from afar and were married at one of the many churches in the city. I may be stating the obvious but just clarifying some hurdles! Never mind the fact that people drifted between churches depending on who or where the poor relief was being paid.

I have just looked at the transcribed Parish Records but NOT on Ancestry.
This info may add to your problems but ....

I have found a baptism of a Mary Ann Cook d o Thomas & Mary on 12 April 1770 at St Aldates Church (note it is not and never has been St AldGates). The date implies she may not have been baptised as a child but when she was a bit older - sadly no age entered in the PR's.
Thomas and Mary had other children all baptised in the same church - do you have any names for siblings of your Mary?

I also found a baptism again in St Aldates Church, on 29 Oct 1783 for a John illegitimate s o Mary Cook - may be connected to yours?

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Yarnton Parish Records
« on: Tuesday 28 January 20 22:52 GMT (UK)  »
Hi
I have had another look for you and may have something of interest, see what you think?

The Oxfordshire Family History Society (OFHS) have an Oxfordshire Marriage Index 1538 -1837.
In that index is the following;
Sarah SAUNDERS of Yarnton married at St Mary Magdalen Church, Oxford on 15 June 1718 to
Thomas DANSBY of Farthinghoe, Northants.

In the transcribed parish records of St Mary Magdalen the marriage is there but the grooms last name has been entered differently - I think by mistake.
the entry records a marriage on 15 June 1718 between Thomas DARNSLEY of Farthinghoe, Northants and Sarah SAUNDERS of Ettington, Oxon (Warwicks). She may have been from Ettington originally and staying in Yarnton?

There is NO baptism for Sarah in the transcribed PR's for St Bartholomew Church, Yarnton.

I think the marriage in the Marr Index is yours and a search of the  Northamptonshire PR's -specially Ettington is needed now for Sarah's baptism?

Anyway I hope this all works for you?

Welcome to Roots Chat Vera Rose.

I suggest not dismissing the info immeadiatley, certainly that being offered by Ribbo - in my experience it was not and is still not today, unusual for someone to get baptised as an adult? Particularly if they wish/ed to be married in church rather than a registry office and in the period being searched here, there weren't any of those either?

Hi Jane
Good I am glad the info is of use.
The Dring line in my tree is back to 1690 - John - born in West Oxfordshire, married Elizabeth Crawley.
Let me know if these crop up in your research?
I have a full set of the Oxfordshire Parish Records - just e mail me if you need a look up - any time.

Hi
I've just looked at my copy of the St Nicholas Church, Idbury PR's where it states:
POUGHESHIS Mary d o Josef & Martha bapt 10 July 1726.
There are no other entries for that family name in that church PR's anywhere.
Hope this helps
