Other Countries / Agnes Cartwright - Marriage in Calcutta 1903
« on: Saturday 17 February 24 14:37 GMT (UK)  »
Hello All,

I have an Agnes Cartwright (born 1877) who marries a George T Lane in Calcutta. India in 1903. Her father is given as Joshua and deceased at the time of the marriage.
I know that Agnes and George lived in India for some years before returning home to the UK.
I cannot find any matches for Agnes (with father Joshua) in the UK records or any of the Indian record sets that I have been able to access.
I would like to find out something about her life before her marriage to George.
Thanks,
Paul

Lancashire / Re: Death Certificate - Manchester Register Office

He might be on the 1939 Register, which has the full date of birth, although not always accurate.

If you can give his name, it might be possible to find him.

I have his date of birth but I was under the impression the Manchester records office required a death date. I will revisit this as I thought it was a required field.

Lancashire / Death Certificate - Manchester Register Office
« on: Thursday 08 February 24 13:43 GMT (UK)  »
Hello,

I wish to apply for a soldiers service record through the National Archives. They require proof of death if he was born less than 115 years ago. His DoB was September 1911 so I will need an official certificate. I know that he died in Manchester in 1992 and FreeBMD indicates the volume and page. However, I dont have a full date of death and the online ordering system requires this information.
Any ideas please?

Many thanks for all the additional information.

I now have enough to be able to apply for his military service records.

Thanks All,

A significant amount of new information but some of which does not fully add-up:

His name. On some documents its Ronald James McDonnell, then Robert James and finally the references to McDonald. Fortunately, some of these documents reference his service number which remained the same.  The MBE document definitely says Robert James McDonnell.
Theres no record of Ronald (Robert) having a sister called Margaret despite the announcement at his death.
His mother Maggie Kenyon marries Thomas J McDonald. Again, another transcription error?

There wasn't a census in 1939.
Were you looking at the 1939 National Register, by any chance?

Sorry, the 1939 Register. In my delight at finally cracking this mystery man I had written the wrong thing .......

birth

Thanks,
Writing is not entirely clear but it looks like McDonnell.

His wife Edith (Collins) married a Frederick Rolfe in 1934 before she later married McDonnell. Cant find Fredericks death but the 1939 Register has her name changed from Rolfe to McDonnell.

Maggie Kenyon was born Hayfield 1891. Her mother's maiden name was Arnfield.

Maggie Kenyon then possibly married Thomas McDonald in 1911. Should surname be McDonnell??

SS

McDonnell should be the surname but we had first name Ronald originally and that became Robert so who knows......
