Tyrone / Re: Henderson drumaslaghy Co Tyrone

No,there were no significant gaps in these records just in the baptisms registered for this family.I did a really thorough check of the Carnteel Church of Ireland records which is where I found all the Baptisms apart from one in Errigal Truagh. The Parents were Thomas Henderson and Catherine or Kitty Conway.Their children were John 1812,Robert 1814, William 1823 and Joseph 1824.The first three show residence as Crilly and the last one Drumaslaghy. The next entry for Hendersons at Drumaslaghy is the Baptism of Mary of Philip Henderson and Mary Graham(my greatgrandparents) followed by Francis of same parents in 1852.Philip and Mary came to Belfast around 1853 as their next child was baptised there in 1855.I know that John went to America but I have not yet traced the other brothers. The land at Drumaslaghy was owned by the Leslie family of Glaslough and Thomas Henderson paid the rent there from 1824-1840.I did not see any later rentals. The Leslie records are in Dublin and are being worked on at the moment so maybe I will get something later. The Hendersons had been at Crilly since the 1780s according to the Annals of Aughnacloy and also the Aghaloo Church of Ireland records but they did not appear in the Tithes or rentals that I saw.I assume they just worked for other people.I did not see any burials either for Thomas or Catherine so I thought they must have attended a different church when they went to Drumaslaghy.Philip may just have worked for someone at Drumaslaghy but he did have a vote so must have had land of some kind.He voted against Leslies wishes and was evicted or so the family story goes.I am pretty confident I have checked all the Church records for all denominations in Carnteel and Aghaloo, even into Monaghan.Maybe the civil marriages will produce something .Thanks for taking an interest.

Thanks for replies. I had searched the Presbyterian and Methodist records as well as the Church of Ireland Carnteel and Aghaloo.I can find baptisms for a family named Henderson 1812, 1814 then a gap to 1824,1825.  They lived at Crilly in Aghaloo but moved in 1824 to Drumaslaghy where they seem to stay until 1851/1852 when the first two children of my greatgrandfather Philip are born.I suspect my greatgrandfather was born between 1814-1824 and I can't find his baptism!.This is the only sure way I can connect him to this family.I am assuming they moved to a different parish for work between 1815-1824 but which one!I don't know if people from Tyrone went to Scotland for work.I suppose anything is possible.I had hoped I might find something in Ballygawley but the records start too late.I had seen the marriages on familysearch and have taken a list so my next visit will be to the GRO.Thanks for trying to help!

Would anyone know where baptisms etc would be registered for people living at Drumaslaghy Co Tyrone in 1840s/50s.I have searched the Church of Ireland and Presbyterian Records Aughnacloy without success. There are some baptisms in the Cof I but not the ones I need! Was there another Church in the vicinity?Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Monaghan / Re: Monaghan Workhouse records
« on: Monday 12 September 11 20:49 BST (UK)  »
I went to Monaghan County Library but the only workhouse records for Castleblaney were meetings and expenses. My grandmother had given birth in the workhouse in 1887 . I was hoping to find out if there was a record of when she entered and left but there were no lists of people that I could see.I'd love to be proved wrong!

I see you have Swan and Henderson in your connected families. My greatgrandfather was Philip Henderson who came from  Aghaloo Co Tyrone.I have traced a much older Philip Henderson to Derrycourtney Aghaloo. It is near Caledon and also just a few miles from Glaslough Co Monaghan where there seems to be a Henderson family.A  J Henderson Of Glaslough was buried by the Church Of Ireland Caledon 2/3/1845 aged 75. An Anne Henderson of Derrycourtney married Thomas Swan of Curlagh Co Tyrone ,which is also near Glaslough 1/12/1820.They had children as follows; Margaret 7/12/1823,Anne 14/1/1827.William Henderson 13/2/1831 and Thomas Hearse12/5/1833.I have never been able to trace my Philip Henderson back to this family.I expect these names are common in the area but I live in hope that I will find a connection.

Monaghan / Re: Comiskey ( Cumiskey ) (Cummiskey)
« on: Saturday 11 June 11 17:43 BST (UK)  »
I don't know if this will help.My greatgrandmother was Mary Cumiskey born Crossmaglen 3/6/1838.Her Father was Thomas Cumiskey.Thomas was a son of Patrick Cumiskey and Mary Morgan. He was born 1814.There were 7 in the family and one was James born 5/6/1828. Castleblaney is only 5 miles from Crossmaglen and my Greatgrandmother moved there about 1866.Hope this helps though there are a lot of Comiskeys in that area.Did you check the Griffiths Valuation at www.askaboutireland.ie?In those days people moved between the parishes in search of work. Good Luck

Hi anne,on the askaboutireland.ie web site there are 181 Morelands in the Griffiths Valuation of land carried out 1850s/60s.Seaching is free!I just hit in the family name and did not pick a county. There is one Mooreland at Loughgall Co armagh.Have you no idea of even a christian name? or area in Ireland. Is the 1911 census of Scotland online yet?I really think Familysearch is your best bet but you would need to know at least one christian name.Ancestryireland do tend to be dear but the new Irish Family History Foundation is dearer again.5 euros per entry! There is a good web site www.from-ireland.com and also one which gives census links.Just type in Irish census links. If you have even one christian name I will check Familysearch. You can get reference numbers from the indexes then go to Dublin and check the actual entries.I do not know when I will get a chance to go but I am in a Family History Group and we intend to go some time. All the Best Josie

Hello anne, I am assuming you looked at all the usual. www.ancestryireland.co uk and emerald ancestors for the north and familysearch.org new search facility where you can check the indexes of births marriages and deaths in Ireland from 1864.Also the 1911 census for Antrim,Down,Kerry and Dublin is online at www.nationalarchives.ie.Did they originate in the North? If you let me have a bit more information I will see what I can do.Josie ;)
