Roxburghshire / Re: Ancestry Vs Scotlands people
« on: Tuesday 16 June 15 23:53 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

I have used Scotlands People online and like you couldn't find the entry I wanted but luckily I live in Edinburgh, and went for a day to search their records in person - and would you believe it - found what I was looking for ???? eventually. Can't explain this !!!  Neither could they ;D

If you are able to come to Edinburgh its only £15 for the day and 50p to print a record.

Census and Resource Discussion / Re: New Ancestry layout

Morning all,

Have just spoken to Ancestry about this "Beta" which I was totally unaware of.

They say that at the moment it is only operational in USA and no date has been set yet for the UK.
Assured me that there will be two sites available - the one we are using at the moment - and the "Beta" version. Couldn't tell me if this new one would cost more!! but that we will all get an email beforehand.

Obviously, there are ongoing updates with the present system and that is what I originally moaned about.

Me too - getting old (er) and don't like change. Now when I "search" Scottish Records (yes I am from the frozen north !!!) they are mixed up with "others" and it takes twice as long to go through them :'(  >:( Patience is not my middle name.

World War One / Re: Please can you help me identify the regiment of this soldier
« on: Saturday 13 June 15 17:05 BST (UK)  »
Hi there,

Just shown the cap badge to my husband and he says that there is a V and a C if you look closely.
The V usually stood for a volunteer regiment and the other letter i.e. the C could refer to the town or area he came from.

If you would like to send us more information on the gentleman we may be able to help more.
Not on this site very often so you can email us at (*)

The Lighter Side / Re: re-incarnation
« on: Wednesday 25 February 15 20:55 GMT (UK)  »
I have never had that experience myself but have found that there are one or two of my ancestors I feel drawn to, others that I get the feeling I wouldn't want to know and others nothing in particular.

Re-incarnation is a debatable point of view and depends on how you personally view it.

I am undecided myself ???
