The Common Room / Born in USA, British Subject - COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 28 July 09 09:45 BST (UK) »
Hi, I am new to the site, new to researching!
My grandmother is proving pretty elusive. I know her birth date and I can find her on the 1901 census with her father only aged 2/3, place of birth is given as USA, British Subject.
There are two stories, one she was born onboard ship or in Ohio (I favour the latter). I have a clue as to her mother but I am not 100% sure.
The point is, where is birth certificate likely to be found?
I'd be grateful for any advice.
Thanks.
What I mean is, Does British Subject mean her birth was registered in the UK or not necessarily?
