Armed Forces / WaterlooMedal Roll Look up Please
« on: Tuesday 25 July 06 08:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi, I would be really grateful if someone could do a look up on the Waterloo medal roll for me.

I am looking for a Samuel Stowell, who served with the Coldstream Guards. I know that he was in the guards in 1816 and am hoping that he might have served at Waterloo. I don't know much about him, apart from that his wife was called Ann and he was living at 4 Castle Lane Westminster in 1822. I don't know his rank, but his son Samuel went on to be a drummer and his grandson a Trumpeter, so I am guessing he had a similar musical rank.

Any info would be wonderful, thanks.

Hi Neil

Thanks for that, sorry to appear dumb, but what does having the clasp mean? Does the roll give any other info, I've only ever seen WW1 medal cards before. He was definitely a Trumpet Major in 1872, when he transerred to the Ayrshire Yeomanry, I don't know when he became one.

Thanks again

Lynn

Just seen the extra info, thanks

I wonder if anyone could do a Crimea Medal Roll look up for me please.

I am looking for Samuel James Stowell, who was serving with the Kings Dragoon Guards, as a Trumpet Major.

Many thanks

Census Lookup and Resource Requests / Police Gazette July 1836 Lookup Please.

My ggg grandfather Samuel Stowell is listed on the deserters index of 16/7/1836, and I am interested in any further information that is available from the Police Gazette of that time.

Samuel served with the 1st Batallion Coldstream Guards and at this time would have been serving in Canada. The unusal thing is that he contiuned serving in the guards until his death in 1848 and was even awarded good conduct pay, which is strange if he had been a deserter. Ia m interested in any further information, that the gazette might give.

Thanks for your help

Lynn :D
