Lincolnshire / Re: Bertie/Bert Harrison born Lincoln April 1897

I have his pension record - he joined the East Yorkshire in Jan 1914, posted to France in Nov 1914 and returned to the UK in Dec 1915, where he remained until discharged on 5 Sept 1917 as no longer physically fit. He transferred to the West Riding Regiment in  June 1916. there are some notes from 1916-17 but they are difficult to read

he gives his age as 21 on discharge - birth noted as Oct 1895 - the relatives fit. On joining up on 14 Jan 1914 his age is 18 yrs and 96 days  (note this form has date stamps of 5 sept 1917 on it, relating to his discharge, which is where the confusion about his joining up date comes from)

Please could you tell me whereabouts online you found this documentation?

Just thought I'd give you an update on what me and the hubby have discovered this afternoon all thanks to everyone's initial information. We now know that Bert served during the 1st World War with the 1st Battalion East Yorks Reg and then transferred to the West Riding Reg later on. He attained 4 medals and on 3rd Oct 1918 he joined the RAF and then served until 1923 at various places around the world (which matches what my dad had been told) - the trail then runs dry! We think we have a possible marriage and death in 1965 and 1975 in Grantham Lincs - but this is just guessing.

Thank you so much for this information. It is hugely appreciated just wish I'd known this last year when my children were doing WW 1 at school and we didn't think we had any close relatives who fought in the war.

I think that is his birth and possibly his death but cannot be sure. From the 1901 and 1911 censuses I know he was born in Lincoln. The facts all match up...his brother Harry was my grandad. We also found a short service attestation for 5th Sept 1917 with same service number so sounds as though he signed on with another regiment on medical discharge. Do you know the dates for his service with the duke of Wellington?

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place....I apologise if its in the wrong place.

I'm trying to find information about my great half-uncle Bert/Bertie Harrison. His mother was my great grandmother Ann Eliza Harrison (later Taylor). He was born in Lincoln in 1897 and then his mother married my great grandfather Joseph Taylor in 1899 and they resided in Sutton Bridge.

I have found a Army Short Service Attestation for the East Yorkshire Regiment on Sept 1917. My dad and his brothers always believed that he was in the RAF and worked in the stores at RAF Cranwell.

Can anyone help with finding any further information about Bert/Bertie and his service record with the East Yorkshire Regiment - possibly the 1/4 Battalion of the Territorial Force and then whether he did actual join the RAF.

Thank you in advance.

Lincolnshire / Re: Bellamy - Holmes Bastardy hearing

Thank you. I know that my gr gr grandmother was born in 1850 in Coningsby and her birth certificate has Roseanna Holmes written under 'name of child' and no father although James Holmes is listed as her father on her marriage certificate. Her older sister Emma was born Dec 1844 so assume that this was the child she is claiming maintenance for. Her birth record also says Holmes Bellamy on the register. She has another older sister Susan born 1842 but she is just listed as a Bellamy.

I wonder why she is trying to petition a George Smith - the dates would suggest she is linking this to Roseanna - that is if that is her? I think they may have had more children - Matthew Holmes Bellamy and Ann Rebecca Holmes Bellamy.

I will try and see if I can access the newspapers. Not living in Lincolnshire at the moment as we are stationed in Wiltshire so getting to the Archives is a problem! Can I access these online perhaps anywhere?

I don't know whether your friend is still researching this or whether you are even still on here but Sarah Bellamy is my gr gr gr grandmother. Her daughter Roseanna is my gr gr grandmother. I believe her father to be that of James Holmes, born in Walcot in around 1822. I only have two siblings down for Roseanna - Susan and Emma. Does this mean that Sarah also had a son?

I do hope you are still on here as would love to hear from you.

Hello - its been a while since I was last on here - about 3 years!!!! ::) Whoops.

I've still been trying to find out more information about my Gr Gr Gr grandmother Sarah Bellamy of Coningsby. I've found an entry on GENUKI for a report in the Lincoln, Rutland and Stamford Mercury on 31 January 1845 of an order made at Police Office, Boston 24 Jan on James Holmes, farmer of Walcot for maintenance of the illegitimate child of said Sarah. This is I believe to be for the sister of my gr gr grandmother whose father was also James.

Just wondering what this actually means and how I would go about finding out whether any other claims were made for the 2 other daughters that they had or any more information on the above? Would there be information as to whether he attended or such like?

Thanks in advance for any help.
