Hampshire & Isle of Wight / Re: Thomas Hall of Hartley Wintney

Many thanks for the kind responses, and my apologies for taking so long to reply. The reason that I was unsure about the 1799 Thomas Hall was because he had so many siblings at such short intervals, that I thought that, although biologically possible, it was perhaps unlikely, so there may have been more than one James Hall fathering children in H. Whitney parish.
On Freesearch, some children had just the father named as James, and others both the father James and the mother Mary, so it was impossible to be certain of the parentage.

I would appreciate any help in finding the perants of one Thomas Hall.
In the 1851 census, he was living in Heckfield, Hants, aged 50 and was said to have been born in Hartley Wintney.
I have found a possible candidate Thomas Hall, christened in that town on 07/04/1799, with a father James Hall.

The father's occupation was Labourer; not much of a clue there, and the witnesses were:
James Cantcliffe and Maud Seth.

Thank you Falkyrn for your suggestion. I tried Perth museum some few years ago but they had very little; just a few photographs of sailing ships at sea and two books; neither of which gave much detail.
The site that you gave me BruceL was very informative and has helped me a lot.
Thank you both again.

I now have the birth certificate of a William Worrell born in Grantham in 1885. The birth year agrees with his age on his marriage certificate, but his father is named John whereas the father's name on the marriage certificate is James. William and Beatrice later settled in Grantham and raised a large family there, so I am pretty sure that I have the correct person; but why would someone falsify their father's christian name?

If it is of any interest, Sam Croxton is recorded in Hope Bowdler parish paying window tax in 1750.

The Croxton family were blacksmiths in Hope Bowdler from 1715 to 1941.

It seems that there were many ship and boat building yards on the west bank of the Tay along the Shore Road to the south of Perth. Has anyone done any research into this industry? I am particularly interested in the Fenton family who were engaged in this trade.
