Thank you for all of your useful ideas and links. I shall try and make a few phone calls in the morning and hopefull find out how to contact the owner ( apparently Dr Cheng ? bought it a few years back - as mentioned on the "urban "link...... so why oh why is this beautiful building just left standing ???, I only hope that it doesn't get pulled down, it has such an amazing history.

Surrey / Silverlands orphanage, chertsey

Hi

Silverlands was at one time an orphanage for children of actors/actresses. I have a request from one of the orphans relatives to find out if he can visit this building. It has been closed and abandoned for several years, and I am led to believe that security staff patroll the grounds to keep out yobs. I have absolutely no idea who to contact, and live too far away to speak to one of the security guards !

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Oxfordshire / Fairmile Mental Asylum

Hi

Does anybody know whether Fairmile has now been converted into flats?. I have been contacted by someone who's relative went there, and she desperately wants to visit.

I know it closed down in 2003, and if the planning application failed - would anyone know who to contact so that this person can look around ???

Thank you for any help

Hi Daisy loo

Ah .. didn't think of that one- I just thought it being the common room and all ...

Please message me through here for any haunted building ideas.

Yes is the answer to your question. I do have many records relating to British and Irish families. Basically the records cover people enlisted into the Army and served in India, plus tradesmen who went there to "make their fortunes". I have indexed 75% of the names so I can search for a record quite quickly.

I have been doing family research for 7 years ( have a great collection of records relating to British Military in India - if you need help just ask! _(BY PERSONAL MAIL - NOT ON THIS BOARD PLEASE), and was recently approached to do some research for a well known Paranormal Company (TV).

Well ... as you can imagine, you only have to type in "haunted pub" and you will get a list as long as 3,000,000 Andrex toilet rolls !. I would be really really really appreciative if anyone can e-mail me the name of any buildings ( hotels, mannor houses, musuems ect which are reported to be haunted - or really old.

Many many thanks, Gem. x

Gloucestershire / Woodchester mystery help please
« on: Monday 21 June 10 16:06 BST (UK)  »
Hello

Where do I start !

An article was published in the Times in 2001 regarding the famous Angel apparition supposedly captured by Cine film in the 1950's. This turned out to be a massive publicity hoax to bring Woodchester Mansion into the limelight !.

However I am truly stuck on one thing - were there really American service men camping out in the Woodchester Park grounds in 1944, and did some die whilst driving across a pontoon bridge over one of the lakes in the Spring of 1944?????. I cannot find any report of such an occurrence in the Times newspaper, nor can i find any factual report using all of my on-line sources.

I need to complete a history report so any help would be absolutely wonderful.
