Handwriting Deciphering & Recognition / Re: Queenie? Alldred
« on: Thursday 12 January 23 09:57 GMT (UK)  »
Sorry to bother you all again! I really need to train my brain to be able to read handwriting better.

Unfortunately she doesn't seem to have been baptised (or I can't find the record of it) so this is the only record I can find her in.

"Queenie" was often a pet name / nickname for Victoria -- so try searching for the baptism as Victoria

To be considered "of this parish" you only had to live there for 3 weeks -- which just happens to coincide with the number of Sundays the Banns had to be read.

But "living in the parish" could have a very wide definition. There are stories of people just leaving a suitcase in a friend's house or a lodging house for the requisite 3 weeks but otherwise continuing to live at their normal place of abode

My dad's ashes are still in the garage in the round container, and he died in October 2020. We plan to scatter them at the end of March, his posthumous birthday.

My aunt has her husband, father and mother in laws ashes in her lounge behind the small bar area.

I have my grandmother's (died 1989 and "inherited" from my aunt) and the said aunt's (died 2017). They are in a box / urn in the spare bedroom.
My father's (died 2011) and my mother's (died 2019) are still with the undertaker.

We have decided what to do with my parents' ashes -- we just need to find a convenient date for the immediate family to get together at the relevant place.
We have no idea what to do with the other two sets of ashes! Apparently my grandmother wanted them to be scattered in the field behind the house she lived in when first married -- but as the field had long since been turned into a housing estate even before she died, I can't see the residents being too thrilled with the idea!

Basically, I am wondering if I can look through all the Bradford birth certs for a specific birth date of Sept 24th, as that is the only thing I am sure of.

Birth Registrations are not in order of birthdate, but in order of registration date.

Registration was anything upto 6 weeks after the birth, so that would be a huge number of certificates to look through, comprising the end of the third quarter and half of the 4th quarter -- for each year you want to search
The public are not usually granted access to the Registers and I very much doubt the Registrar's staff would have time to do such a vague search.

What you can do is use a site such as freeBMD to search the for registration in Bradford in these time periods

Searching "William Richardson" born Bradford 1860 - 1870 brings up just 2 entries, both 1861

The same search for "William Whitehead" brings up 8 entries throughout the decade.

You would have to do further research on each of these people to see if one of them is your William

What evidence have you of Elizabeth's mother being the woman in the lunatic asylum apart from the name?

It is more likely that whoever filled in the baptism register accidentally entered the wrong name -- if he was making up the register some time after the actual event, forgot the mother's name and assumed it was Sarah because of the baby's second name

I have an instance of a baby's parents listed at baptism being the wrong one of a pair of brothers living at the same farm. It took wills listing the children of each couple to bring this mistake to light.

Family History Beginners Board / Re: Two wills?

Possibly more property / money was found that had belonged to him that had not been distributed by the first will.

My 2xGreat grandfather's will was proved soon after his death in 1870.
In the mid 1890s one of his sons was legally declared to have died in Manilla in about 1867 -- and so there was a further probate of his will to distribute money originally left to that son.

Yes, the PDF versions contain all the information you would get on a paper copy

The Common Room / Re: How old can a mother be to give birth?

One of my husband's ancestors had 14 children in the early/mid 1800s --the first when she was 20, then at fairly regular intervals but the last 5 (including a set of triplets) were born when she was between the ages of 41 and 45

The Lighter Side / Re: Why so many first names ?
« on: Monday 14 November 22 15:24 GMT (UK)  »
Mine is the opposite quandary
My 3xGreat Grandparents had 9 children.
7 of them were given 2 forenames
The 7th & 8th children only had one name each -- I have wondered why they missed out on a second name
