Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Re: 1841 Census - Lexden
« on: Tuesday 19 July 05 11:52 BST (UK)  »
Hello, Alan and thank you so much for replying.

Unfortunately, I now have a further problem - yours is even younger than the one in my death certificate who is 10 years younger than the one I want.

He was born in 1768 in Stanway but the family moved to Copford (a couple of miles down the road) during his lifetime.

His father was John Lappage and his mother Mary Springet.

Nevertheless, I am delighted to have your reply.  Thank you.

Susie

I am trying to find information on a Jenny Blaik or Blake b. around 1770 and living at Woodside, Bewcastle.

If anyone could help, I would be enormously grateful.  Thank you.

Hello!

I don't know if this will add anything to your information or not - I do hope so.

I have just received a death certificate for a William Lappage who died in Copford on 29th April 1842.  The mark of the informant is that of an Elizabeth Warren.  Perhaps she was your ancestor's mother?

I thought you might like to know and it might possibly add another name for investigation to your list.

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / 1841 Census - Lexden
« on: Tuesday 19 July 05 10:13 BST (UK)  »
I would be most grateful if anyone can look up a William Lappage at Copford (Lexden) in the 1841 census.

He died the following year, aged 64, and I need to know who he was living with to tie him into my tree.  He belongs there somewhere but just where I don't yet know.

It says 64 on his death certificate but I can find no record of a William Lappage born in or near 1778/9.  The one I am looking for should have been born ten years earlier in 1768/9 which would have made him 74.  However, if there is an entry for him in the 1841 census, everything should become clear.

Regarding the above William Potter who married Mary Lappage - if anyone is interested I have a wonderful story to tell about him!
He was hung at Chelmsford for persistent theft (and, oh boy, could he thieve!) and his case was cited by the government select committee called to prohibit capital punishment for theft some years later.
I have more detail if anyone is interested.

Essex Completed Lookup Requests / Census locations - Copford, Birch, Layer Marney
« on: Thursday 02 June 05 09:27 BST (UK)  »
I live in Yorkshire but have visited the area south of Colchester and to those of you who live there - lucky you!  Its beautiful.

I do have a problem, however.  Many of the addresses on the censuses are either no longer there or not noted on maps.

My surname interest is LAPPAGE and I have them living at Easthorpe Road (don't bother with that one - its not rocket science figuring that out); Hale Road, Copford; The Glebe, Copford; Blind Lane both Layer Marney and Copford.

I know where Copford and Birch Churches are and the location of Copford Green (and the A12 and Layer Marney Tower, of course) so you can direct me from any of these points.

I do hope someone can help!
