The Common Room / Re: Tracing back wrong info on Ancestry
« on: Monday 22 October 18 18:05 BST (UK)  »
Thank you all,

I have the right information through fact checking & due diligence but this chap was never in the military, was born in 1854 & the wrong info of him dying in France in WW1 is on many copied trees!
Just wondered where that info originally came from.

Thanks again.

The Common Room / Tracing back wrong info on Ancestry

Hello, is there anyway to trace back on ancestry where the original wrong information came from?
I look through other trees & it says they have taken others family trees & added them to theirs.

Hope that makes sense?

South Africa / Re: Parents of Jessie Alexandria Blackler

Hello again! Right i think i have John, but how do i connect the dots?
i am matched on ancestry DNA to a person ( who doesn't answer messages) who has Jessie on her tree. (DNA 4th cousins) I have Blackler family originating from Devon. So i worked on the premise of the Blackler connection. My 4 x gg parents Richard John Blackler & Harriet Lee  from Bridford Devon had a son called John Blackler in 1835, i can't find him after the 1851 census & his age puts him around an age for marrying Maria. Any ideas on where to look for him?

Wexford / Re: Byrne Family of Enniscorthy

Some comments.

1) As unlikely as it may seem at first, Aiden/Aidan is in fact the same name as both Moses and Mogue. So you need to consider those variants in your searches.

2) Enniscorthy was part of the estate of the Earl of Portsmouth. There is somewhere on the internet a listing of the tenants in the town ca 1820s?

3) You say nothing about the birth of Edward Byrne in Liverpool in 1823. Have you looked for a baptism record?

4) What was the occupation of James Byrne?

5) Godparents were often, but not invariably, relatives.

Thank you for your reply, i have looked for all variants of Aiden but the family seem to have vanished. Edward is who i am really interested in, but hit dead ends so am tracking down the Byrne's who lived at the same address to so if they could shed any light..... however they are just as tricky. My gut feeling is that Edward was not born in Liverpool & was born in Ireland not sure if wanting to join the merchant navy & rising to the ranks of captain had anything to do with this,  i had hoped that i would find a baptism record for him along with the Byrne's in Enniscorthy but i did not. There is no birth or baptism record for Edward that i can find, James was a Merchant.

I did write down the names of godparents.... & put it away safely as i didn't have much luck! I shall dig them out & try again.  Thank you for the tip on the Earl of Portsmouth i will have a google.

They arrived at Liverpool on 7th November 1924 from Canada and left Liverpool on 28th November so they were in England for 3 weeks. :)
Silly me  ::) I thought it was the other way round! I blame school holidays!

Can anyone help look up an address, i'm struggling on both of those census's. I don't have a name to go with it.
It's 147 Chadderton Rd, Oldham Lancs.
It's listed as an adrdress on the outward & in bound shipping records for a Bartley & Bertram Furey they departed 7/11/1924 returned 28/11/1924 ( Hardly seems long enough?!)

South Africa / Parents of Jessie Alexandria Blackler

Hello all, i wonder if you can help me find any further information regarding Jessie's parents?
Jessie Alexandria Blackler was baptised 30/11/1884 in Cathcart, her parents where John & Maria Blackler. Jessie & the family moved to Bulawayo & here she married into the Huntly family.
From death records i think Maria was born Maria Waiters appx 1848 european Scottish, she died 1905. There is a death record for a Charles John Alexander Blackler at Bulawayo in 1955 but that puts his dob at 1870. So not the dad but not sure if/how he is connected, could be a coincident.

I can see John as a Freemason registered at Lodge 2092 in 1885 previous to that he was at lodge 989.  I am trying to find out when they came to Cathcart & from where, i have a feeling the family originated in Devon England... but have no proof.

Hope you can help.
