Thanks to BillyBlue and Majm for all your help.  This is appreciated.  I have made a note of the two Aldersleys in White Pages and will try and contact them.

Australia / Missing uncle in Australia
« on: Sunday 27 March 11 18:49 BST (UK)  »
I am putting my faith in Aussie rootchatters here!  I have recently been told that I have an uncle and his name was John/Jack Aldersley.  He was born in Bradford, West Yorks, England in 1934 but was not brought up with his family.  His birth parents were Ruth and Arthur Aldersley.  All I know is that he was sent "down south" to somewhere near London and that in 1976 he emigrated to Australia.

This is the first time I have had to search for someone in Australia and so I don't have a clue how or where to start.  I am keen to find out if he is still alive and if there is an Aldersley family that links in with mine.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks -Dianer

Yorkshire (West Riding) / bradford childrens home in the 1930's

Hello

I have a close ancestor whom I recently discovered was born at St Lukes hospital in Bradford in 1934.  His name was John Aldersley and the parents were Arthur and Ruth.  John was the brother of my deceased father and there are no other relations that I can ask so I am opening this one up to rootchatters for some help.

The family were very poor and it would seem that John was not brought up with the rest of the family.  I now need to try and find out what happened to him.  At first I thought he may have died in infancy and I have searched for the first three years after birth to see if he had died but I can find no trace of a death.

In view of the fact that the family were very poor I can only conclude that John was signed over to a home, be it a children's home or something of that nature.  Can anyone offer any guidance as to how I go about finding out if this was the case?  This would have been in the 1930's and I 'm not sure whether it would have been done through the authorities?  Thanks for any help. I'm at a brick wall!

Yorkshire (West Riding) Lookup Requests / Bradford library- newspaper look up
« on: Sunday 13 February 11 19:46 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

just wondering if anyone was going to do any research at the bradford central library in the near future?  I have a death cert for an ancestor of mine- Sarah Ann Walton.  The death cert says that she drowned in the Leeds Liverpool canal at Shipley on 29/10/1915.  There was an inquest but I doubt whether there will be record of this now.  The best that I can hope for is that it was reported in the local newspaper, ie Telegraph and Argus or the Shipley News.  The death cert. says that it was an accidental death but I would just like a bit more information about this unfortunate event.  If anyone is going to the library and can give me anymore info. I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks- Dianer

Thanks for this.  I already have a copy of the will for Thomas Pennington whose date of probate was 1751 but I don't have the details for the 1717 one.  Do you have a copy of this at all?
