World War Two / Re: Armed Forces help
« on: Tuesday 27 October 20 15:13 GMT (UK)  »
Thank you very much for your very kind replies and useful links. I will definitely apply to the mod for possible records.

In reference to his DOB being slightly different in the 1939 census. My nana always said the reason is he was born on the 1st April 1907 and he didn't like the fact it was associated with april fools day so he always asked for his birthday to be celebrated on the 31st March which is the date in the 1939 census.

Thanks to ShaunJ the J.W Brinsley who was a 2nd lieutenant in the records was indeed not James William Brinsley. Thanks Shaun.

I will move the this thread as suggested to the World War 2 sub-forum.

I will follow up shortly with a picture of his uniform.

World War Two / Armed Forces help
« on: Tuesday 27 October 20 14:13 GMT (UK)  »
I am looking to find a little information on my Great Grandfather's WW2 service records with any documents or even a regiment number if possible. I personally haven't had any luck.
With Ancestry the only place I have searched.
We have him in photographs in uniform.
I presume he joined in 1939 when Germany declared war on Britain. Any guidance at all would be great.

• James William Brinsley
• Nickname 'Jim'
• DOB - 1st April 1907 - 28 Nov 1971
• Birth Address:
305 Newbridge Lane, Stockport, Cheshire, England
• Family Address:
7 Star Street, Portwood, Stockport, Cheshire, England
• Marriage: To; Gladys Tattersall -
April 1934 • Stockport, Cheshire, England

Hi.

I am researching my great grandmother.
The reason I will post it here is because of the matching surname and place of birth area.
I understand any information is limited as it is a popular name.

Father : Thomas Higgins (Farmer) *
((Marriage Certificate Evidence))

Residence :
1911 • 26 Manor House, Humphrey Lane, Urmston, Lancashire, England
Marital Status: Single;

Church of the English Martyrs, 5 Roseneath Rd, Urmston, Manchester M41 5AX

Married : George Townley (1883–1928)

Birth of Daughter :
Mary Ruth Townley (1913–2002)

My mission is to find any other information on this town she was born in as I can't find much.
But mainly, now i have mentioned her on this forum maybe somebody in the future has a similar link.

Okay I see now. I was using the wrong search function. I appreciate your reply thank you for helping me. Big help.

When searching a name or word using the main search function the results don't seem to offer date order, instead they look like relevancy or so I think.
Why isn't there a date order for the results using this function?
Sometimes the results can have hundreds of pages.

It is possible i suppose that it could be the same family but without further research into the news article of that day and learning more about the source it is unlikely I can make a connection to mine.
Big families were the norm back then.
I wouldn't be surprised if there are lots of super sized families.

I hope you are and your families are doing well. Looking over our conversation,
our Dace connections are strong.
We have connections exactly around Cannock, Cheslyn Hey, which is but 3 miles down road in and around Bloxwich.
Stay good.
