The Common Room / Re: 1921 Scottish Census
« on: Wednesday 30 November 22 11:18 GMT (UK)  »
This relates to a child that was referred to as adopted in the 1911 census.  1921 Census child referred to as daughter, with BA in the column.

What does BA mean in the Marriage/Orphanhood column in the Scottish 1921 Census?

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I have found them but I still need the 1921 census to clarify.

Armed Forces / World War I accuracy of information from additional genealogy sites

Researching a soldiers will at the time of World War I

Scotlands People have a copy of the will and beneficiary upon death

Other sites have a name of a father, who is not the beneficiary, and I have also found two records of two World War I pensions with his rank, name and number paid to two different people one the "father" and one the beneficiary.

How accurate is the information on the other sites?

Thank you.  They have not arrived at this address yet. I  need the 1921 census to be published.  It would clarify so many possibilities.

Researching family who lived at Crail Street, Parkhead, Glasgow.  Parkhead, Glasgow what would the RD name have been for that part of Glasgow in 1911. I have typed in Parkhead but its not bringing it up.  Was Parkhead known by another name?  Thanks

The Common Room / Births late 1880s, early 1900s Scotland

In my family tree some births are registered at addresses miles from the family home.  I can’t find a family connection to the people living in these addresses, or the areas.  It’s mostly shops with a house.  The family weren’t grocers or ironmongers.

Got me thinking where did women give birth before local maternity hospitals were built? Did shops become maternity hospitals?
