Berkshire / Re: Parish Registers
« on: Saturday 29 September 07 00:21 BST (UK)  »
Have just read a thread on the closure of Churches due to lack of funds for their upkeep and can't help thinking that the solution to both problems lies in their assets ....namely ..Parish Registers and "Heritage". maybe the revenue should go to the Church, maybe it's time to re-invent themselves, as all other businesses and going concerns have to, and .. maybe rootschatters should be the campaigners for this, after all we know just how much this service is desired and we are all sad to see yet another Church, and Graveyard bulldozed to make way for, carparks, flats, office buildings and the like.
I am not a Religious person but view the Churches and the roles they played in our ancestors lives as something worth preserving.

Any takers for mounting some sort of campaign?

Your situation seems quite complicated, I am afraid I am not quite sure of the legalities but as your Mother is dead I think you probably can. I shall try to find out more and get back to you. Just didn't want you to think you were being ignored on here, we are all such a helpful bunch usually.
Re-wording your post might help and maybe placing it in the "common room" where it would be seen by a wider audience.
In the meantime though I shall see what I can discover.

I found a Thomas and a John in the IGI with parents Michael and Jane ! do you have them ??

I'm such a "dufuss " with batch numbers etc .... but I wondered if you could find her that way !!

Annie  :)
Yes I have them, they seem to be the only 2 of Michael and Janes children appearing on the IGI, do you think this may indicate that the other children were baptised elsewhere, and not neccessarily covered by the LDs?

Have exhausted b.m.d's on Ancestry...

Have you just looked on the transcribed ones or have you checked through the original images too?

~ Claire
Have done both, and have a genes contact who is also searching...to no avail. Daft thing is  the contact may or may not be related depending on the right birth details of Jane Harland. We have even met for coffee as we live in close proximity, compared possible family resemblances, but the uncertainty without the evidence of a certificate sort of "hangs over things" if you know what I mean.

New eyes are always good and thanks for even being "on the drawing board" in the first place.

Yes I saw that one too but when I viewed the image it looked like "Anne" to me.
Did you look at the image too?  I may be wrong.

Hi,
There is one near Kendal, one near Kirkham (between Preston and Blackpool) and one North west of Clitheroe which is probably the one you want.
