There's an 1889 School Admissions record for a William Harris in Deal.
DOB: 30 Aug 1881. Address: Portobello Alley. School: St George's School, Deal
No name(s) in the Parent or Guardian column.

At 4 Portobello Alley in 1891 is the Crickett family. With them is William H Lill born c.1882 in Eastry, Kent:

William Harris Lill, baptised 18th September 1881 in Alkham to Charlotte Lill. Amendment: No father named.

Seems like this is your man. You could always order his birth certificate for further confirmation.

Many thanks for your replies.Apologies for my lack of information,it would seem she died in childbirth.

Do you have her death certificate/registration? Cannot see an obvious one. I'm also, like you, not having much luck researching William. Although, it is helpful to have a father (William Harris, tailor), provided he was being honest on the certificate!

Okay, I see now that William had a daughter with his first wife:

HARRIS, MABEL       RILEY
GRO Reference: 1907  J Quarter in EASTRY  Volume 02A  Page 1134

Who is with him on later censuses.

Always good to include all information, otherwise it can lead to unnecessary research.

For clarification, the 1939 register that gives him a birthdate of 25th August 1881 has him as residing with a Cecilia J. Harris.

William Harris, widower, aged 27, married Cecilia Jane Thomsett on 7th November 1908 in Deal. His father is given as William Harris, tailor, deceased.

Are you saying that William Harris was previously married to Millie Riley or are these 2 separate Williams? Have you got a copy of the 1906 marriage certificate? EDIT: The only marriage registration I can find matching your details is to a Nellie Riley. EDIT 2: William was indeed married before, and had one child with her.

Could I just clarify a few things?:

I can see the marriage between Sara Allexander and Raphe Pickmoore [sic] on 20th January 1688 in Middlewich, and their subsequent children:
Mary (1689)
Martha (1690)
Ralph (1692)
Ann (1695)
Hannah & Martha (1698) - no mother's name

But the only baptism I can see of a Sarah Alexander in Middlewich was on 24th January 1635; father is Humfrey Alexander. This cannot possibly be your Sarah, as she would not be able to bear children at 63. Is there another baptism I am missing?

Also, I imagine Sarah was born around 1657-1667, so how can her father be born c.1660? Did you mean he married around 1660?

Hi,

You posted a request yesterday:
https://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=882126.0

And several people have looked into this for you, but you have not acknowledged their responses or thanked them for their help.

It would be kind of you to do so before embarking on a new area of research.

Are they the ones with daughter Lily born 1895/6? Have you found her birth to check for mother’s name?

Ostensibly she is "Lillian Winifred Kent" born in 1896 in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, but I can find no birth registration.

It seems she went on to marry William Poyser, with later records providing a birth date of 13th March.

John and Louisa have also "adopted" 10-year-old George Adams by 1921, according to the census. Both of his parents are still alive.
