The Common Room / Re: Possible for birth records to be "disappeared" from GRO?
« on: Wednesday 14 July 21 11:57 BST (UK)  »
In the past I have found several birth registrations that are on freeBMD etc either missing from GRO or mistranscribed. What I have done is report them to GRO and if they can find them (which they usually can as i provide the freeBMD reference etc) they then update their site.

Unfortunately this was before Covid hit and the updating of their site seems to have come to a bit of a halt as far as I can see.

A tree on Ancestry has his death cert - died 10.4.1878.  Jane shown as his wife??

Yes that is all correct

You have to buy credits to view the full entry

Look at this 1858 marriage on SP for parental info for Hall

Also - https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQ7M-BVK

That 1858 marriage is for my Hall Burdon. The copy is not very good hence why they made a mess of transcribing his surname but the details it gives of his parents all fit correctly

Wonder if he was already married?

Take a look at the Scottish 1851 entry for Hall Bodam b 1824 England living in Glasgow

In 1871 eldest son Joseph is 4 so was his birth registered as Burden or Stirling?

Have a look at birth for Joseph Bardinn 1866

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQF7-PLR

I have looked at the 1851 census and I am satisfied that is my Hall Burdon. I also discover another wife this time Janet!

No sign of a marriage in the SP index.

I wonder? Was Hall still married to Elizabeth, so he couldn't marry Jane, so they just bent the truth a little?

Interesting thought. I shall bare that in mind depending on what i find when i look up the 1858 marriage later.

The 1877 poor relief claim referred to above says Hall and Jane were married at Kilsyth (does not say when)

This is the 1861 census for Hall Burden (sic)

Hall Burden
Age:   34
Estimated Birth Year:   abt 1827
Relationship:   Boarder
Gender:   Male
Where born:   England
Registration Number:   615
Registration district:   Stevenston
Civil parish:   Stevenston
County:   Ayrshire
Address:   No 51
Occupation:   Collier
ED:   4
Household schedule number:   228
Line:   10
Roll:   CSSCT1861_90

Unfortunately i cannot see the original to see what it says about marriage status. It is my assumption that he is still single in 1861

You have the right people there.

No the 1865 birth is just an estimated date from a later application for poor relief (in 1877)

Lanarkshire / Marriage c1865 Hall Burdon and Jane Stirling

I am looking for a marriage probably in Lanarkshire circa 1865.

The marriage is between Hall Burdon (single in 1861) and Jane Stirling. The Burdon name gets horribly mistranscribed so may be easier looking for Jane - but there are more of them!

They have a son born in 1865 at Stonehouse, Lanarkshire (and several more children later).

Grateful for any help trying to find them. I have been looking on Scotlandspeople with no success - but that may be me (they seem to have changed the search options since i last used the site!)

Thank you
