World War Two / Help with Military Acronym
« on: Friday 14 December 12 09:25 GMT (UK)  »
Hi,

I have a relative who served in the Royal Artillery during WW2.  He was in the Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment, 413 Battery.

However on the 1 Sept. 1945, he was attached to 82 S/L (Search Light) Regiment of Royal Artillery for 'draft RAALG'

Can anyone shed any light on what 'draft RAALG' means?

On 9 Sept. 1945 he was posted to 10 H&SC, unit Xiv in North West Europe, 14 Sept. 1945 to 49 RHU, unit Xiv.

I think RHU is Reinforcement Holding Unit, but not sure what H&SC could be.

Any help appreciated.

Hi,

I have a copy of the Will now.  It was deffinately worth sending for.

I now have names of additional children of John, who were not evident from census returns and parish baptisms.

Thanks,

Claretnblue.

Hi,

There is a marriage of a John CUTHBERTSON (c1782-1851) to Mary GOOSEBERRY (c1782-c1861), on 21 January 1804, at Saint Bees, Cumberland (from IGI website).

John and Mary moved to Earsdon, Tynemouth, Northumberland (John's native parish) in 1805, where they had many children.

Mary gave her place of birth as Whitehaven, Cumberland in Census details, and in her childrens baptism records.

However, Mary's maiden name in her childrens baptism records vary, i.e. GOOSBERRY, GOOSEBERRY, DUESBURY etc. can anyone help determine her true surname?
There are no Mary GOOSEBERRY's or Mary DUESBURY's baptised in Cumberland around 1782 on IGI site.
