Was she illiterate?  The marriage cert does not say 'the mark of' In fact the whole certificate appears to be all one hand.

The parish register entry of the marriage is on Ancestry both Thomas & Jane signed the register and it is not in the same hand. Is the copy you have from the GRO as that would just be the copy sent from the church to them and not a photocopy of the original
Yes I got the GRO copy long before the marriage banns came on line, Looking at her signature on the banns it doesn't look much like corri

Sorry, to be more precise, the Registration District for the death was Chesterfield in Derbyshire (hence the question on this sub-forum).

She also says her father was deceased by her marriage in 1858, but unless he died before registrations in 1837, there are no Joseph Corri deaths between 1837 and 1858. It's always possible that she was illegitimate and made up his name for respectability.
After another week of fruitless I'm inclined to agree. No Jane Corri or similar spelling. Anglican marriage so surely a baptism certificate was provided ?? Was she from Wales ? or was that a guess by the census assessors judging her accent. Was she illiterate?  The marriage cert does not say 'the mark of' In fact the whole certificate appears to be all one hand. Add that no suitable Joseph can be found dead or alive.  Was her name Jane ? 1861 census does not give her first name.
Corri ? Co**i*? Nothing seems to fit, Collie ? 1841 census entry might be lost but 1851 should show something.

Were there any other children from the marriage?
No marriage has been found for Joseph Corri.  Possible that Jane was an only child

An online tree with Jane marrying Thomas Clay has a Martha Jane born 1859, her mother's maiden name is spelled Corrie.
That Martha Jane Clay was my great grandmother.  I have searched with spelling Corrie without success

this is confusing - there is a tree online which gives Jane's p.o.b. as Cornwall and her birth as c.1801 - also it seems she had children with Thomas Clay before they married -thomas Clay in 1833 and Martha Mersell Clay in 1838 then the marriage date as 1858
???????
Martha Clay was a witness at the 1858 marriage -could this be the daughter witnessing her parents marriage
1851
13 East St Bermondsey
Thomas Clay head M 32 Porter Bucks
Jane wife 50 La????? Cornwall
Thomas son 18 Bermondsey
Martha daughter 14 Bermondsey
HO107 1572 553 1

or have the families been muddled???

Suz
I have not seen that tree which is either incorrect or another Clay family.  There is nothing wrong in my tree   http://roy1939.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=roy1939&view=0&pid=3413&randi=390513564...... all straightforward and documented.   Jane Corri is the only problem.
