The Common Room / Re: Very, very big documents
« on: Sunday 26 December 21 19:23 GMT (UK)  »
I had this problem years ago, on a low-grade PC.
I gave the Documents names, not numbers - e.g. Smith-a, Smith-b, Jones-a, Jones-b, Jones-c ..
when you get your final document order fixed, you can change these into Chapter numbers.

If she had lodgers, they might be on the Electoral Rolls?

The Lighter Side / Re: Are You a City Dweller or a Townie?

I'm a suburbanite. I've lived in suburbs all my life except for 6 months in a flat in an old country house on the Wirral.
I love big cities for holidays, and I love the countryside, but I feel I've the best of both worlds here in suburbia where we've lived for 50 years. (when I was a teenager, I thought suburbs were really boring!)

Dublin is still a smallish city, and we live 5 minutes from the sea. It's 30 minutes into the city centre by public transport. It doesn't take long to be out in real countryside.

The Stay Safe Board / Re: Shall we be able to spend Christmas with our families?

we're just back in Ireland after four days in the Birmingham area, visiting our daughter.

The boat was grand, the train through Wales was fine, nearly everyone wearing masks.
But England - just 10% - 30% masks on the trains - we were sort of horrified to see it, even though we'd heard it was a bit of a free-fo-all.

(admittedly our cases are going up too, but most people wear masks here indoors and on transport, so we hope we'll get back on track.)

Dublin / Re: Catholic Schools in Dublin

The school on Windsor Ave isn't mentioned in Thoms 1922, or 1937 (which doesn't mean it wasn't there . . St Mary's National school is mentioned in 1956 at no. 43a.

In 1922, No 617 N.C.R. is between N. Richmond St. and Summerhill Parade - it shows B. O'Hanlon living there. So you'd be looking for schools in that area.

yes, my parents had a record (one of those old 78s) of Delia Murphy singing it.
It's probably somewhere in my attic still!

Reminds me of the song "Three lovely Lassies from Bannion(sp?)

the lyrics contain the words
"my father has 45 shillings, and the grass of goat and a cow"
