This is what I have found this morning for you. I will send it by e mail in case you miss this because others may read or find the thread of interest or use and it does not leave it 'hanging'

Dring Data from St Mary The Virgin Church, Black Bourton Parish Records (PR’s)

I must start by saying I accept no responsibility nor accountability for the data below if wrong, entered incorrectly or causes any harm how so ever caused.
This is simply a collation of extracts from the above records.

Now then Simon/ Symon
I think having been through all I have and PR’s etc it looks like this:
SIMON Bapt 20 Ap 1562 Bur 10 Nov 1573 I cannot see who he married, and he had at least 5 children:
1.   Maryan (Marian) Bapt 20 Apr 1562 marr William Trotman 14 June 1584 they had a son = William Trotman marr 1623 Lucy Rogers at Burford, she was a widow.
2.   Joan bapt 7 July 1567 marr 18 Nov 1599 William Sperincke
3.   Ellyn bapt 27 Mar 1573 bur 23 Apr 1573. Died at Bradwell where her dad was a farmer
4.   Lucy bapt 9 Aug 1573
Symon bapt 2 Nov 1564 marr Anne. They had a son Simon bapt 8 Feb 1588 bur 25 Aug 1617 who marr on 30 Apr 1610 Lucy Rogers. He, Simon was described in the PR’s as a Gent = Gentleman. Lucy was d o John Rogers a Gentleman of Clanfield. NOTE PR’s say this Simon is buried in the Chancery inside the church at Black Bourton so should be findable!! Quote’ son of Simon and farmer of Bourton Abbats in the Chancel, being the first that was buried there

Simon and Lucy had at least 4 children:
1.   Nicholas bapt 7 Jan 1616
2.   Mary bapt 4 Aug 1615
3.   John bapt 14 Dec 1612
4.   William bapt 19 June 1614 bur 15 May 1620
Now there is now another Simon for whom I cannot find a baptism to prove a link but he was definitely there and had at least the following children;
1.   Dorothy bapt 2 Oct 1634
2.   Simon bapt 8 May 1636
3.   John Bapt 17 Dec 1637
4.   Marion and Mary both bapt 23 May 1640 = twins?
5.   An (not a typo – as transcribed) bapt 7 Apr 1642
6.   William bapt 3 July 1648
7.   Miriam bapt 24 June 1651 bur 29 June 1651
8.   Aaron bapt 29 June 1651 bur 4 July 1651
9.   Dorcas bapt 6 Dec 1652

William Trotman married on 22 Nov 1623 to Lucy Dring at St John the Baptist Church, Burford. His name was entered in the PR’s as William Trettman and hers as Luci Dringe of Black Bourton.
No other Trotman nor Trettman entries in Burford

Hi
Just been having a look at your quest and offer the info below which may help you a small bit. I have gone through the Oxfordshire Family History (OFHS) Transcribed PR's on CD for St Marys Church, Steeple Barton and found this info some of which you may have  - or not!!

James the elder B c 1740 was not recorded as baptised at St Marys. There are some Annes but impossible to be sure which may or may not be her,

Baptisms;
Ann 29 March 1761
John 12 Sept 1762
James 16 March 1764
William 3 Aug 1766
Elizabeth 1 Jan 1769 Buried 10 Sept 1770
Jane - recorded as Jeney - 26 June 1771

There are no other applicable ones 10 yrs either side of Ann or Jeney
In all the children's baptism entries Ann is spelt Anne.

Marriages:
None of the children appear to have been married in Steeple Barton. So presume the family moved away?

I have gone through the Oxford list of Arch Deacon bonds - nothing. Then I looked at the OFHS Marr Index - 1538 - 1837 and there are marriages of James Busby to Ann but none are in the appropriate dates - the closest I see are;
1718, 1774, 1782, 1793 - so perhaps they married over the boarder in another county but the above list is not infallible there are some rare errors and omissions so may be???

Burials;
Other than Elizabeth I cannot see any appropriate burials so again its possible they moved away?
However there is a burial on 8 Feb 1821 of an Ann Busby aged 87 so born circa 1734, so aged circa 27 when Ann was born in 1761 and the 1 st child often got the name of the appropriate parent - but that's a wild stab and difficult to prove!!

So where next well I have all the Oxfordshire PR's here on disc but to go through them all is not gonna happen. I reckon you are going to have to try back tracking and see where they moved to and what that turned up - am I teaching you to suck eggs - sorry.

Let me know if the above was of use - or not and if you want more look ups, just shout
Regards

Hi Anna
Welcome to Roots Chat
I have looked at the Oxfordshire Family History Society (OFHS) transcribed parish records on CD at Hook Norton and found the following.

Baptisms;
???? - s o Jno(John) and Jone (Joan) 12 April 1723 - name not entered and my interpretation of names in brackets
Sarah - d o John and Jone 15 Feb 1729/30
Thomas - s o John 11 Sept 1726
Richard -s o Jno and Jone 16 Feb 1732/3
Richard - s o John and Joan 10 Feb 1733/4
Anne - d o John and Joan 27 July 1735

Marriages
Ann to William Turner on 1 Jan 1746/7
John to Sarah Colin on 4 June 1750 - I reckon this chap is the baptism for which no name was entered - maybe?

Burials
Richard 20 Feb 1732/3
Richard 8 March 1733/4
John 25 Jan 1767
Jone 30 Sept 1767

Note there is no marriage for John & Joan either in the Hook Norton PR's nor in the OFHS index of marriages, so I reckon they married over the boarder in Gloucestershire or Warwickshire.
So I think your link to Hook Norton can be closed here as there are no others you mention.

Hope this helps
Nigel

This is an excerpt from the British History on line which goes a small way to describing what was the hamlet of Ascott Near Great Milton in Oxfordshire. I think you are looking the correct place by all the information presented on this and other threads but it is quite complicated.

Of Milton's other hamlets Ascot once had a large manor-house, a medieval chapel, and at least three farmhouses. (fn. 81) Little is left now except Ascot Farm, an L-shaped, half-timbered and brick house, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, and a few other survivals of the great house and its appendages. Ascot was the home for several generations of various members of the Great Milton branch of the Dormer family: Sir Michael Dormer acquired it in 1518, and it passed to his son Ambrose (d. 1566). (fn. 82) Ambrose's widow Jane, who had a life-interest in the house, (fn. 83) took as her second husband William Hawtrey, a London merchant and an original member of the Muscovy company. (fn. 84) In her will made in 1581, Jane speaks of her plate and household stuff at 'my mansion house and grounds called Ascott', (fn. 85) and it seems probable that the Hawtreys lived at Ascot. There were at least four other Dormer-Hawtrey marriages and William Hawtrey's younger brother Thomas, also a merchant of the Muscovy Company, (fn. 86) appears to have stayed in the Ascot house at the end of his life. He made his will there, left a bequest of 10s. to the Vicar of Milton, and was buried in Great Milton church. (fn. 87) Some details about the building in the time of Sir Michael Dormer, Ambrose's son, have survived. There were at least twelve bed-chambers, including a gate-house chamber, and a long gallery is also mentioned. (fn. 88) It is likely that the house suffered from Hampden's raid on Ascot in 1642 (fn. 89) when he demanded its surrender; it was in any case rebuilt by Sir William Dormer in the 1660's. He was known as William 'the Splendid' and it is evident that his mansion was planned on a large scale, but it was accidentally damaged by fire in 1662 before its completion. (fn. 90) It is said that it was 'burnt down', (fn. 91) but either some of it was left or it was rebuilt, for William Dormer paid tax on twelve hearths for this house in 1665, and Plot shows it as a four-chimneyed house on his map of 1697. (fn. 92) It was evidently used as a dower house until at least 1728. (fn. 93) Davis shows a house there in 1797; he also shows the park, the formal inclosed garden, and a chapel in the grounds. (fn. 94) Nothing is left now of the house or its outbuildings except for a 17th-century dove-house, granary, and summer-house. The dove-cot has wall faces of vitreous and red brick, with diamond, chevron, and chequer patterns; the eaves string is arched and cusped. The brick granary is octagonal and has a vaulted cellar. The summer-house is built of rubble with ashlar dressings; it is of two stories and has a hipped roof. It is now a dwelling house called Piccadilly Cottage and has been added to and modernized. Seventeenth-century walls of terraces and the gate-posts of the main entrance to the grounds survive. The last have stone piers, cornice heads, and ball finials, and are flanked by avenues of lime trees. A wrought-iron gate of 18th-century date and an early 17th-century gateway of stone, once in the park, are now in the Victoria and Albert Museum. (fn. 95)

The chapel, a private one attached to the manorhouse, was built probably soon after 1200 and remained until 1823, when it was pulled down. (fn. 96) It consisted of chancel and nave, with a central bellcot over the chancel-arch; both nave and chancel were originally lighted by lancet windows, but two of these on the south side were replaced by twolight Decorated windows in the 14th century. When Powell visited it in 1805 he found it 'in ruins'. There were wall paintings in red in the nave depicting the passion of Christ, scourging, crucifixion, descent into hell, and appearance to Mary Magdalen. (fn. 97) A drawing of the chapel from the south was made in 1811 when the building was still entire. (fn. 98) Another of 1813 shows it roofless. (fn. 99)

Hope this helps

Oxfordshire Lookup Requests / Re: Richard Harris born c1787
« on: Tuesday 11 October 16 20:03 BST (UK)  »
Hi
I think the Milton you are looking for is Milton under Wychwood near the western boudary of Oxfordshire with Gloucestershire. Often referred to simply as Milton by those of us who were and still are natives of West Oxfordshire even today.

The baptisms for Milton under Wychwood were held at St Marys Church, Shipton under Wychwood until 1854.

Within those records is a baptism for;

Richard Harris s o Charles of Milton 13 Aug 1788

I cannot see a mariage that fits within the Oxfordshire Family History Society Marriage Index for Charles which is a shame but he may have married over the boarder in Gloucestershire as it appears Richard may well have done.

Hope this helps

Hi
Whilst I note you say you have no further information I also see you use the word currently?
We are not able to look at / for living rellies - data protection ect.

So, assuming he is not alive then perhaps if you can offer even the slightest piece of info to support your quest we can give it a shot?
