John and William show up on IGI but not Mary Ann or Mary. Don't the mormons like women?

Thanks, Wozzle, you certainly had better results from the census than I did, I can never figure out quite how that works.

We can guess how old Nick got his farm and I suppose Mary might be Mary Ann's cousin.

The info from 1851 suggests that Mary Ann was born in Old Cleeve in 1811 but the 1841 entry would make it 1816. I guess I will have to keep digging.

Somerset Lookup Requests / Nicholas LANGDON / Mary GOODING

I wonder if somebody can help me solve a little puzzle. I have been trying to find the parents of my ancestor Nicholas Langdon's wife Mary Gooding
The facts I have are:

Nicholas Langdon b. Old Cleeve, 1804
Mary Ann Gooding b. Luxborough 1809
Married in 1844 Old Cleeve

The 1881 census has Nicholas, farmer of 5 acres still living in Old Cleeve but no mention of Mary.

The 1881 census has Mary, listed as a farmer's widow, living at Mill Head, Bampton, Devon.

Nicholas seems to have avoided being listed on any other census during his life. I have had a suggestion that Mary was born in Old Cleeve in 1811.

So the question is have I got the right Mary Ann Gooding?

Norfolk Lookup Requests / Re: BURRELL / BALES marriage.

You wouldn't believe it,dear. Fiddle, fiddle, fiddle, all day long - course I blame that Niggle Kennedy

Anyway thanks to your help I traced the Bales or Beals, as they were by then, back to 1700 last night, through the parish records. Don't they try to make life hard for us though, would you believe that one Beals married another Beals just to try and throw me off the scent!

Thank you for your suggestions.

The certificate is ideal of course but this would have been the eighth one I needed this week alone and that is not practical for poor old pensioners (can't you hear the violins in the background?)

I have nearly all the available info on the Burrells from the Norfolk parish records, which are some of the most easily accessible of any in the country, but  trying to nail down Harriett to a specific family is proving really difficult. It seems her parents moved about quite a bit.

At the third attempt... success. but it will still give me no matches for either of their births. Though it is nice to confirm that the marriage took place and the date, I knew it was in Norwich area. Any suggestions as to how I get more details?

Norfolk Lookup Requests / BURRELL / BALES marriage.

Can anybody please help me find the marriage of:

Charles Burrell b.1842 at Sloley and Harriett Bales b.1841 in Norwich?

Charles was a bricklayer and Harriett was a dressmaker. Their marriage was about 1865 and about this time they left Norfolk and went to live in Islington to take advantage of the work offered by the London building boom.

The problem is I cannot locate the marriage anywhere. I think Harriett is the daughter of William and Sarah Bales of various places in and around Norwich but need the marriage info to confirm this. The problem is that Bales are ten a penny around Norwich and Harriett was a very popular name at this time.

Charles appears in one census as Barrell and Bales are sometimes listed as Beals.

Harriett's most likely father is William Bales  a coachbuilder, born 1796 in Ashmanhaugh, which is very close to the Burrell's base at Sloley.
