The Common Room / Re: Marriage in a Registry Office
« on: Monday 22 May 06 12:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi I have the certificate for my grtgrt grandparents marriage in a registry office in 1847 in London. I think that it became legal to marry in registry offices at the same time official registration came in in 1837 Jabawak

Just adding my twopennyworth, If the marriage is on IGI you can get the film of the parish record at the local Family History Centre and they will make a print for you for 80c Australian. I have 2 sets of great grandparents marriage certs this way and it really does make a difference to see what their signatures were like

Hi Anita I have the 2nd edition and I have found quite a few of my relations on it that aren't on Familysearch. It depends on the area you want, mine are in Northumberland.  If you post who you are looking for someone can look for you,   Jabawak

Thanks Linda for your help, I think I have found my 2 half aunts with my grandmothers 1st married name as maiden name, The only way I can be sure is to get the certificates as the 1st names are not what we knew them by when we were littleb but the area is right. BTW do you know how many children Robinson were born each quarter, it took most of the day to trawl through them all,  Jabawak

Thanks for that, I'm not sure either, the age is out. I was hoping to find her with some of her family somewhere. I know from the marriage cert of her daughter Caroline in 1847 that her husband William was dead then. Jabawak

Would someone be able to look for Susannah Howell born c 1784 in Chigwell in Essex. I have her living in Clerkenwell with her daughter and family in 1861. She is listed as a charwoman age 77, I hope she didn't have to scrub floors at that age. thanks Jabawak
