Orkney / Re: Rendle/Randall family

Hi
I have some Rendall ancestors but no Nathans I'm afraid.
It is a very common Orkney surname as you say.

It would be worth your while, I think, to join the Orkney fhs. http://www.orkneyfhs.co.uk

They are a friendly helpful group and may very well be able to find your ancestor if you ask them to search their records for you.

Another handy site is  http://www.cursiter.com/
but I had a look and your man isn't there.

Good luck, Rian.

It would also be worth your while to join the Orkney family history society:  http://www.orkneyfhs.co.uk/.
There is a tree online there with this Peter Shearers information.

Hi Valda
They were a prolific family weren't they?!
THey had 2 more children after this lot (one was a boy named Abbott, which ties in with the Ann Abbott cousin).
Which of the 2 birth records is the suspect one — Seth or Charles? I looked on the LDS and apart from Charles and Seth, there is also a Sarah christened 20.6.1814 Holy Trinity Coventry.
I have Seth's birth as 1821 (info from a descendant of his) — incorrect by the 1851 census.

Interesting to see the transformation of Elizabeth Ann to Lizy Anne, and then in the bible she signs herself Lizian.

I think WF Hathaway will remain a mystery for now.

Thanks so much for all your efforts — you have discovered heaps of useful data.
I will try to get that marriage cert and will let you know what I find out.
Regards, Rian.

Well done Valda — now we're getting somewhere!

Eliza Mary had a daughter named Eliza Honor Frances who married a Seth Foster from Coventry on 25 sept 1860. They had 10 children that I know of and the first few were born in Birmingham, the next lot in Wales and then in 1891 the family is in Devon (Seth described as retired farmer).
It could be just coincidence that sister and daughter both married Fosters from Warwickshire, but....
connections between cotton mills and drapers, could be why they moved?

I'll have to look further into this one and see if I can link Charles and Seth.
As you say I need to get Frances Ann's marriage cert. (if I can persuade them to let me pay them somehow!)

As for Frederick William Hathaway, he wasn't mentioned in the bible at all — I just found him on the LDS. There are 2 possible deaths on freebmd: a Frederick William in Walsall in 1860 (Eliza Mary's son moved to L'pool later so maybe this was a prior connection) or, more likely, a Frederick in Wolverhampton in 1869.
He could of course have died well before 1837.

Thanks again for all this — you are a legend!
Cheers, Rian.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this!
Most of it I hadn't seen before — not in this detail anyway.
Marian Hopkins was my mother's favourite aunt, who I'm named for.

Thank you again — you're very kind.  :D

Hi Valda
I have written to the Surrey fhs to see how I can pay them. I live in Australia and the card I used to pay for GRO certs in the past, has recently been rejected as being of the type they no longer accept (how annoying is that?!).
I also need to get a copy of the Birmingham marriage as well. Funds are not very elastic at present though!

Eliza Mary's siblings (possibly) were Frances Ann 7.7.1806, and Frederick William 18.5.1810

As far as I know Eliza went to the midlands to be with her husband who was born in Warwickshire and lived in Staffordshire, later moving to Wolverhampton.

The family bible doesn't say where Eliza's father was when he died unfortunately.

Thank you for your help — much appreciated.
Rian.
Thank you for the Aldersgate info — I hadn't seen the 1851 entry and didn't know this.
