Would like to hear from anyone researching these names.  Bastock - Harbury.
Bawcutt - Burton Dassett,  Yerrow- Burton Dassett.  My Gt. Gt. Grandmother was Amelia Maria Bastock who was the daughter of Charles Bastock, Farmer who married Elizabeth Bawcutt, daughter of William Bawcutt of Harbury.

Oxfordshire / WILLIAM WARD, Blacksmith
« on: Wednesday 09 September 09 20:23 BST (UK)  »
Anyone out there that can help me?  My Gt. Gt. Grandfather Richard Ward was born in Oxford in 1822. (according to later census records) Some time later either he or his family moved to Warwickshire and he married in Emscote.  His marriage certficate in Nov. 1840 states his fathers name as William Ward, Blacksmith.   There is an LDS record of a Richard Ward or Warre, Chr. 13/10.1822 in Ambrosden, Oxford to a William and Sarah, possible Sarah Dodd.
Any information that would help would be much appreciated.

I think you have the right one here Tati.  Had another look at the Lett census details and think you are right there as well.  I was told we had a link to Wales on the Phillips side of the family but couldn't find it so this looks all very promising. Many many thanks, will follow this up, hopefully another brick in the wall has now been displaced!

Thanks for these details Suz.  Have traced the Astleys further back on the LDS site, so thats great.  Without your census info. I'd probably still be looking so many thanks again.  One side down, just three other lines to go!

Hi there Tati,
Well the address given on Thomas Phillips marriage to Alice Astley in 1882 was just Gt. Barr Street, Birmingham, the exact same address given for Alice and that address seems to tie in with the Astley family, so no clues there!  His age given on the cert. is 21.

I did find an 1861 census for Aston Birmingham
address - 119 Great Barr Street.
George Phillips Head 42 Butcher, born Winchcomb, Gloucester.
Ann                            40                    b. Prestbury Glostersh.
John.                          19                   b. Cheltenham.
George.                        9                        ditto
James.                          7                        ditto
Thomas H.                    2                        ditto

I don't think that can be right , because on the 1891 and 1901 census details for Thomas and Alice, it says on both he was born in Birmingham.
His first born son was called George.  Of course that could be wrong, anythings possible!   Thanks anyway for all your help, I will just have to keep searching.

Hi there Suz.  Any further details on Daniel would be welcome, if you have him on the 1891 census, it would give me an idea when he might have died, although the previous census giving his father and mothers name has been a great help.  I have been searching for my grandfathers side of the family for many years getting nowhere and now the walls seem to be showing gaps and I'm getting somewhere with my research, it just shows you have to keep trying!
Many thanks again.

Hi Tati,  Thanks for your reply.  Thomas only married in Feb.1882 so, having the 1891 census and 1901 after he was married there is no mention of a son Thomas.
I did find a Thomas H Phillips on the 1861 census living at 119 Great Barr Street, Deritend, Aston, father George, a butcher, however according to this he was born in Cheltenham, and all the other census details I have say he was born Birmingham.  The whole problem is there were a great many Phillips, all living in Aston and several Thomas Phillips, and having been through the BMD indexes several could cover his birth and death, I have already sent for several certificates which are wrong and as you know its expensive.  Will keep your details in mind, you never know there might be a connection, thanks anyway.

Trying to find 1871 census details for my Gt. Grandfather. Thomas Phillips, born c. 1861 Birmingham, a blacksmith striker.  His fathers name was George Phillips, a wire drawer by profession, mothers name unknown.  There are so many Phillips in Birmingham during that time thats its difficult to find the right family. Any help apprectiated.
