Hi gortonboy
In your reply you say they where in Newcastle for the 1871 census is that the Regiment or Edward and Sarah, as I having trouble finding them on that census.  I am not on Ancestry for the moment so it is hard to find any one.

Hello Ladyhawk
Have you found any more information on your Edward Butler? because going by what I have I do not think the Edward Butler on the 1851 census that you have is the same as your later information. Hope to hear back

Hi Culbaire
 Thank's for the information.
I have a little  more information Catherline  Archbold father was Edward, I have her marriage cert; I would guess at Oliver's father was Edward as well, but the Registrar General say they have no information  before 1864. How would I go about looking for a marriage of Edward Archbold around 1830-1840.
 Thank's again

I believe we are on the right track, as you say Edward Butler born 1841 London is very common. Edward Butler was born 17 Sept 1842 in St Sepulchre, London, his parents were John and Lucy
1861 census has him living with his brother his occ; them he was tea packer and living in Finsbury. I will have to try and get hold off Edward and Sarah Eleanor Spencer marriage in 1868 in Portsea.
Will have to read up on the 35 regiment .
It is interesting that this rootsweb chat line is working when  all rootsweb mailing lists are down

Hi
This may be a long shot; I am looking for a regiment for Edward Butler born 1844 London.
All the information I have is from census and free bdm. He was married in Portsea 1868, his first son Charles William Butler was born in Cork in 1874 the next son Albert Butler born 1877 in Chichester Sussex then back to Portsea for the rest of the family. No census for 1871 but the 1881 has him as a Boot maker of an Army Pension.
 Long I know
