Antrim / MacMillan - Brown Marriage 1871 Linenhall St Belfast
« on: Wednesday 14 September 11 13:08 BST (UK)  »
Just started our Family History and we need assistance with a marriage that took place at
the Presbyterian Church Linenhall Street Belfast
on 4th December 1871
between Willaim MacMillan of Kirkcudbright and Margaret Brown of Kirkcudbrightshire

1871 ages William 30 and Margaret 26/27

William was a Ships Captain sailing out of Kirkcudbright.

We tried the Government Records Office but our request came back No Trace

Hope someone can help with our search or provide a route to take the matter further.

I hope you may be able to help with my Family Research, one of my Great Grandparents William McMillan was  born in 1841 in Kirkcudbright and was lost at sea after his ship left Bangor - North Wales.

I have the exact details of the death but so far have been unable to trace any other details, the following information is taken from the Scotlands Peoples records:

Ship Name – Gateforth a Kirkcudbright ketch
Official record – 58137
Date of death – 21st May 1891
place of death – after leaving Bangor North Wales with a load of slate taken off from Beaumaris.
Full Name – William McMillan he was the ships master from Gatehouse of Fleet.
Age – 50 years
cause of death – assumed drowned.

I have only just commenced my search and just wondering where I should go next with my research of the tragic incident.

Any suggestions welcomed

Update 14th Sept, just located a ref to this incident the ship was lost after leaving Bangor North Wales.
So would still welcome any information on William MacMillan or his father John who both were Ships Captains trading out of Kirkcudbright.

Sussex / Davidson Family Pett Village 1841
« on: Friday 09 September 11 17:02 BST (UK)  »
Hi This is my first posting so apologies in advance, the family name is Davidson and we have located a descendant James Davidson b 1801 who was living / working in Pett  according to the 1841Census in Pett Village Hastings W Sussex in the following address;

Pitt Village Martello Tower , however the occupation for all the family members is blank.

I have found useful links to the Martello Towers on the Pett Level but have been unsuccessful in tracing the family 1842-1880, they may have returned to Scotland.

I would appreciate any links or advice on the type of work/occupation any suggestions where I should now look?

Regards

Steve
