Renfrewshire / Re: Anderson/Blyth - Neilston and Greenock

Thank you for checking.  I guess being born in Neilston doesn't mean they continued to live there.  Any thoughts on where to look next?

Renfrewshire / Anderson/Blyth - Neilston and Greenock
« on: Thursday 26 January 06 13:48 GMT (UK)  »
Birth records for Margaret Anderson b 1826 m David Blyth 1853 in Greenock.  She may have the middle name of Robertson. Census says she was born in Neilston.  Marriage cert says father's name was Thomas.  Death cert says mother's name was Mary Batley/Eatley/Catley (difficult to read).  I can find no record of Margaret's birth.  1851 census shows visitors to the home of Agnes Anderson (sister) though I suspect Sister in law, and David Anderson, both from Neilston.

Renfrewshire / Re: Greenock Poorhouse - where to find info?

The Poorhouse in Greenock is better known as Ravenscraig Hospital.  In recent years it has been a mental hospital and a geriatric hospital.  It is an imposing building, and still exists.

I have a record of John Tait and Janet Dorans (b 1816) from 1841 Greenock census, reference 34/10, sorry don't have the address, but the details were taken down by me personally whilst in Greenock.  Children are Helen b 30 June 1841, and John b 19 June 1843.

Derry (Londonderry) / birth notice - William Galloway
« on: Thursday 26 January 06 06:30 GMT (UK)  »
From his Scottish death notice I have William Galloway b around 1836 in Derry.  He married Jane McAlees/McLeish/McLees in Derry 20 May 1860. I would be interested in confirming his date of birth, Jane's date of birth (c 1845 and name).  Their eldest daughter Martha Jane was also  born in Derry, but they then moved to Scotland.

I have a connection to the Wylies of Kilwinning, but I've found a Mary Ralston married to Neil Small.  I have a marriage between the offspring of a Small/Blair and the offspring of a Spurling/Wylie, so we might have a connection somewhere.  I'd be happy to help sort them out, if you would like to ask me a specific question and take it from there.

I have a connection through the Morgans.  Jane Morgan, the sister of my gg-grandfather married a Cuthbertson and one of their children married a McMillan.  the information I have in this line has come from a distant connection whose tree I've joined to mine.
