The Common Room / Re: Cause of death question

Thanks for all the info - it is all very interesting but I don't think we will ever find out exactly what happened (all related adults from that time have passed away) unless any of the papers from that time have an article.

Thanks again

Hi Chris

Thanks for the quick reply!  Your logic is what I thought too!  I hadn't thought of the papers possibly featuring it, it makes sense.  Unfortuntaly the death was in London so I suppose there were several papers which may have covered it?  Will have to look into this, I haven't a clue about London really.

Thanks again,

Nicola

The Common Room / Cause of death question
« on: Wednesday 17 August 05 15:40 BST (UK)  »
Hi

Just wondering, I have a death certificate from 1938 which states cause of death as ' . . . poisoning - did kill himself while of unsound mind'.

Just wondering if anyone knows if all suicides at this time where deemed to be by someone of 'unsound mind' or if this person really was . . .well, unsound!

Thanks for any help

London & Middlesex Completed Lookup Requests / Smolensky/Smoley death
« on: Tuesday 09 August 05 11:08 BST (UK)  »
Hi

I am wondering if anyone can help. I have been trying to locate a reference to the death of my husbands grandfather.  His name was Samuel David Smolensky (known as David) which was at some point changed to Smoley.  (so his death may be recorded under either name) .  So far I have not been able to find any reference to him.

There are two stories to what happened.

1. He died in London during WW2
2.  That he died (or was buried at Golders Green) on 30.12.1938

two conflicting stories and no real evidence to back either!

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Nicola

Glamorganshire / Re: Swansea TB victims 1930s

Hi

Not sure if this is of any help - make be false information even.  However, Hill House Hospital in Cockett, Swansea was originally an isolation hospital.  I think it may have been for TB patients, but am not certain.  It is still a hospital but I believe it is now used for elderly care.

The Archives dept at County Hall might be able to give you more definite information.

Hope this is of some help.

Hi Mike

Hopefully you will have received a pm with my e-mail address.  (The photo I have of him is as Mayor of Swindon not in India, but you are still welcome to have a copy if you would like me to send it.)

Your comments on the recruitments of out of county is interesting as I had assumed he would have been in a Gloucestershire regiment - but maybe not!  Something to look in to.

You asked about the Newton name.  I have not found anything yet.  Presumably if your idea about it being from the female side of the family is correct, it must be something to do with Harry's mother.  As of yet I have not looked at that.

Thank you for the offer of information.  Anything you have on Harry and his family would be very much appreciated.

Regards,

Nicola

Hello

Since I posted the original message I have discovered the following

GRO Army Index Marriages

Harry Edwin N. Niblett  -  1893 page 82  -  Rawalpindi

Sarah J Milner - 1893 page 82  -  Rawalpindi

GRO Army Index Birth - Could these be their children?

Albert Henry N. Niblett   1893  page 190 - Muree
Edwin John N Niblett     1893 or 1895  page 170 - Calcutta
Dorothy Newton Niblett  1898 page 254 - Calcutta
Jessie Rose N Niblett    1899 page 269a - Darjeeling
Robert Newton Niblett    1903 or 5 page 254a - Calcutta

I have yet to discover which regiment he was in - any ideas?

I would love to know more about the Niblett family, if that were possible.  Can I ask what your interest is?  I have a little more infro' from the current Mayor of Swindon's secretary, plus a photo of him, if you are interested.
