Worcestershire / Dingley family of Cropthorne
« on: Tuesday 24 November 09 12:29 GMT (UK)  »

Hi everyone,

My x4 Grt Grandfather was William Dingley born 1755 who lived in Halesowen, Worcestershire and according to the information I've found on the IGI and other peoples family trees was related to the gentry family of Dineley/Dingley from Cropthorne as follows:

Francis Dingley born 1550, Cropthorne, Worcestershire (had lots of children)

Phillip Dingley born 1611, Cropthorne, Worcestershire

Richard Dingley born 1651, Cropthorne, Worcestershire

Edward Dingley born 1688, Alvechurch, Worcestershire

Edward Dingley born 1731 Barston, Warwickshire

William Dingley born 1755, Barston, Warwickshire (moved to Halesowen with Robert Dingley who was a possible brother from Barston)

I'm wondering if anyone else is researching the same family and would like to contact me to share information. I'm not convinced William is related because he wasn't wealthy and was a Nailor by profession but it maybe correct because his line came from the younger children of the family.

Kind regards
Adrian

Hi Sue,

I'm so pleased to hear from you because I had a sinking feeling I was the only one researching this surname and after your post I don't feel so alone anymore ;D

It's only in the past month I've actually got anywhere with my research with my Dellicott family and I've got so addicted to researching this surname and family.

I've just found out that my x Grt Grandfather Thomas Dellicott born abt 1794 was a soldier in the 66th Regiment of foot (mainly recruited from Wiltshire & Berkshire) and was born in Banff, Scotland :o and on the census was listed Chelsea pensioner. Interesting I found Peter Delacourt born abt 1799 Scotland who was also listed Chelsea pensioner whos family stayed on in Scotland. His family are the only Delacourts mentioned on the census from 1841 until 1901 in Scotland. I also found out Peter Delacourt's father was Joseph Delacourt another soldier of the 32nd Regiment of foot (mainly recruited around Cornwall) so I'm thinking Joseph may have been stationed in Scotland who married Rachel Wallace (sounds Scottish). It may only be a coincidence but two of my Thomas' children were named Rachel and Joseph which may have been after his parents?  I did also manage to find a marriage entry for Joseph Dellicott and Agnes Hutchison 1832 Scotland but couldn't find any mention of them on any census records. Peter Delacourt's family always kept the same spelling so this Joseph Dellicott maybe connected but isn't one of Peter's sons.

Sue it seems from your research the surname dates back many many years to the Wiltshire area which is very interesting because I was thinking my families surname may have been Delacourt and the earliest I found was Arthur Delacourt married Alice Brice 1590 Salisbury, Wiltshire. The Delacourts seem to have originated from Jersey (maybe via France) with a number of them living in London and the South of England.

I'll send you my email address via private message and would love to discuss further however you seem to be much more advanced than me.

Kind regards
Adrian

London and Middlesex / Help needed on the Herbert family of London
« on: Wednesday 14 October 09 12:33 BST (UK)  »

Hi everyone,

I've been searching and searching for my x3 Grt Grandfather's family for months without any luck but with help I've managed to get a little further but I'm stuck again :'(

The information I have so far:

Edward Herbert born abt 1784 St Luke's, London, Middlesex married around 1807-1810 Elizabeth ? born 1787 St Luke's, London, Middlesex.

Children

Edward born 1810 St Giles Cripplegate, London
Sarah born 1812  St Giles Cripplegate, London
William born 1815 Kidderminster, Worcestershire
James born 1818 Kidderminster, Worcestershire
Andrew born 1820 Kidderminster, Worcestershire
Harriot born 1817 Kidderminster, Worcestershire
John born 1823 Kidderminster, Worcestershire (my direct relative)

I would love to find out the maiden name of Elizabeth and the parents of William Herbert.

I assumed from all the internet information that Herbert was a Welsh surname but maybe I'm mistaken.

Any help or advice would be fantastic.

Kind regards
Adrian

Hi,

If you can list the names and then what information you have or know (if any) I'm sure I can help you with some extra information.

I know some details are included in your post but it'll be better for me with just the names and information etc.

I may have found some information on Edwin Gee but want to check you details first.

Jackie,

I've just checked the 1841 census information for Mary Edge you gave and it just backs the Marriage information of Richard Edge and Elizabeth Holland. You mentioned the witness names of Joseph Dangerfield and Mary Johnson. Well I'll go to the foot of my stairs Mary is a servant to the Johnson family and living a couple of doors away a Sarah Dangerfield and son David.

Hi Jackie,

You've been fantastic with all your help and information and I'm so glad I joined the forum.

At last I've got some solid information to work on because I'd almost given up on the Edge family.

Cheers
Adrian ;D

Hi Jackie,

Wow the information about the marriage is very interesting.

My direct relation is Mary Ann Edge born 1829, Ellesmere so the Elizabeth on the 1841 census wasn't her mother.

I can't find Mary Ann Edge on the 1841 census because she isn't with the family however I do have her marriage certificate which gave her father Richard Edge (Blacksmith) which matches the family on the 1841 census.

The trouble is who was Richard first wife must have married near Ellesmere.

Can you have a look for Mary Ann Edge on the 1841 census maybe she's with her mother family or possibly a servant?

Great stuff Jackie because I had no idea.

Hi Jackie,

I've already checked the one you mentioned Richard Edge born 05 JUN 1808 Wem, Shropshire, but his death is listed 11 Oct 1808 on familysearch.
