Wiltshire Completed Lookup Requests / Re: Thomas GODDARD -1841/1851 Census Look-Up

Hi Cheryle,

That is soo nice of you to keep an eye out for Thomas. The only other thing I know about Jane which probably won't be much good on the 41, is on other census she has her birthplace as Marlborough.

Thanks so much.

Hi Avongirl,

Pleased to hear from you and can't wait to see what you find out. I know what you mean, Sollitt researchers seem to be few and far between.

I did have a look on the 1881 census for Sarah and found her in the Guisborough Workhouse. Also there are these Sollitt children:

William    12   born        York
Mary A      9                  Fridaythorpe
Margaret   5                  Loftus
Harriet       3                 Loftus
Louisa     10 months     Northallerton

If they were hers I guess Mr SOLLITT may have died and she and the children ended up there? I couldn't find anything on the IGI that fitted, no marriage or a birth/christening for William about 1868.

Maybe a lookup in the 1871 census around Fridaythorpe, might be helpful since Mary A was born there around that time.

best wishes

Hi Sue,
Thanks for checking the 1851 census. I don't really have anything on Thomas GODDARD except from Abel & Jane's marriage entry which says he was "of White Hall Farm".

Most of those Hoods from Lacock are related. I have a fair bit on them. Abel's parents were Jacob HOOD & Elizabeth DUMMER. Abel & Jane went to Wales about 1848. Seems quite a few left around this time for a better chance of work. I did read somewhere that Henry Fox Talbot of Lacock Abbey had interests in the mines over there with Archibald HOOD. Archibald HOOD was from Scotland so don't think he was related.

My great-grandfather, Stephen HOOD was born in Wales in 1855 and he came to Australia about 1873.

I can't seem to find anything on this bloke and wondered if someone would be able to find him on the 41 or 51 census. The only information I have is on his daughter Jane's marriage entry which says her father was Thomas GODDARD of White Hall Farm which could be near Lacock.
Jane was born in 1823 and was married to Abel HOOD at Lacock in 1846.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks Aynsley, that's great. Sometimes he went by J Wilson or J W COULSON just to be different I suppose. John and Jonathan are very popular with the Coulsons even in the same family. He had a brother John.
