Thank you everybody for your help. Ive been member of ancestry for years now never knew about poor law records you learn something knew everyday. Ive had a quick look but it going to take time and patience going through them lol. Over a million i need to work out what year she would have been there.

Thanks for replying.
My granmothers name was Gertrude Bibby she was born 4th october 1905 in pimlico.From what i remember her brother edward was also put into a home wether or not it was the same one i don't know. She left to go into private service. While she was at the home she got medals for pass passing some sort of exams. She spoke of south norwood. I hope this helps

Hi ive just joined rootschat so this all new to me. I was wondering if anyone could help. My grandmother was put in an orphange when she was about five. I think because her parents split and her mother could'nt cope, but i am having trouble in finding the orpanage she was in. The 1911 census say's she was living in walcott square. I remember her saying she left the orpanage to go into private service.

Any idea's where to start would really helpfull
