Hullo Jenn,

no, no.   I am trying to ascertain if anybody has information on his place of birth in Surrey, or his arrival, etc.. in South Australia.

I was inspired to seek information on him, after I saw a request from a previous Chatter who appeared to get quite a bit of information from BISA, whatever that is, on one of their immigrant families.

I am seeking information on James Broughton, a Merchant Seaman, born in Surrey about 1890 and arrived in South Australia about 1917.   In the middle 1920's he was residing at Ceduna/Thevenard on the West Coast.    Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Hullo Geoff,

Many thanks for the reply to my query and also the information regarding the layout of the UK Census.   I felt for certain that the number 92 displayed was indeed a house number.

Lincolnshire Lookup Requests / HUDSON Family of 92 Pelham Street, Lincoln
« on: Monday 12 October 09 05:52 BST (UK)  »
I noticed on the 1901 Census that a Family named HUDSON of 92 Pelham Street, Lincoln, were the adoptive family of a James BROUGHTON, born at East Grinwood about 1888.    As I am researching a James BROUGHTON, born about that era and finding it very difficult to establish any connection, I wonder if there are any HUDSON relations who may be able to give me any information on this particular BROUGHTON.    I know that he was an inmate of a Workhouse (as an Orphan) in the 1891 Census.

Thanking all in anticipation.

I am trying to make make contact with any Descendants of Samuel and Mary WALKER, who, on the 1901 UK Census, was residing at 395 Cold Harbour Lane, Brixton, Surrey.    It is believed that Samuel operated a Coffee Shop at that address.

Samuel was born in Yorkshire abt 1860 and Mary born in Lambeth, Surrey, abt 1857.

Children included :

Sydney, born Lambeth, abt 1888
James, born Lambeth, abt 1890
Edward, born Lambeth, abt1892
Jane, born Lambeth, abt 1894

Regards, Jim

Hullo Judith,

Thank you ever so much for your reply to my query.    Unfortunately neither of the persons you listed are likely to be any relation to my James.    Mine was born in 1893 and was in the Aust Merchant Navy during WW1.

Regards, Jim
